I disagree. If you've read any of the discussions of people suggesting Elba, you'd know this not to be the case. Hell, I think he would be a great Bond, and I despise political correctness. Actually, the female Ghostbusters movie came about because the plans of a new sequel with the original cast fell through (Harold Ramis died, and Bill Murray didn't want anything to do with it). As for the female Master, Steven Moffat has said it was simply to shake things up a bit - to do something different.
Valid? Are you kidding me. You're handing out more liberal hogwash and want people to swallow it. FACT. Fleming wrote what his description of what Bond should be and even had sketches made. Here's a huge hint. He wasn't Black. Bond being WHITE IS DEFINING, both on the basis of what his creator had in mind and in a historical perspective of the filmology.
I was referring to the partisan "liberal" BS as invalid. Your argument about Fleming's original writings is valid, of course, I just disagree that being white is a necessary component to the character. It doesn't matter if that's how he was originally written, as long as it's not central to the character - and it isn't. For example, let's assume we were discussing Colonel Hans Landa, Christoph Waltz' character in Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds". This villain's purpose in the film is to hunt down non-Aryans and anti-Nazi collaborators during WW2. In this context, the character must be white, as anything else wouldn't make sense. It is an obviously important attribute of the character. But these are irrelevant. Can you name just one reason why, within the confines of the character himself, Bond must be white? Pick any Bond film, and change only the color of his skin, yet leave everything else exactly the same. How would this character no longer be Bond? Just because you picture a white guy when you think about Bond? Irrelevant. Blind adherence to tradition for no other reason than simply, "that's how it's always been", is just nonsensical.
Have you seen the latest couple of Bond movies? I'd wager they've gone already quite some distance from what Ian Fleming had in mind. Not to say that you or I or anyone but the man himself would know what that was exactly.
I myself would have no problem with Bond being of a different race, however, I think the series would have to be rebooted. Throughout the series or movies, James Bond has been portrayed as a white male. Keeping in mind that 007 is the agent ID and James Bond being the person to represent that ID, he would have to be killed off for another person of a different race to assume the position of Agent 007.
