The plan was to steal tools. Then customers drew their guns

Fat chance of that! I guess if the answer is funny enough you can share it with everyone.

I didn't say that. I just said that more guns statistically have not led to more gun crimes. It's probably more of a cultural or geographic thing, but more to the point, more guns do not lead to more crimes.

So you'd rather be in a gunfight without a gun of your own?

F*ck that. If you want my money, you had best be prepared to get it under the threat of your life. And what if I don't have any?

What’s in the till or your own pocket for that matter isn’t worth getting killed

You're correct. What's in my pocket isn't worth the thief getting killed for it.

So you suspect should a thief be trying to rob you at gunpoint you’ll be able to draw and fire before he gets a shot off?

    Fantasy.

Getting shot in real life doesn’t work like it does in the movies. Assuming you don’t end up putting a shot right between his eyes, he’ll have plenty of time to empty a magazine into you. Congratulations! You’re both dead over your wallet.

Safer to hand it over then cancel your cards. That way he got nothing and you didn’t get dead.

How do you figure? Suspect I go around robbing people? Or are you annoyed that I’ve pointed out that cowboy fantasies are unrealistic?

Thieves only rob at gun point and never at knife point or some other weapon? They usually pick wimpy targets. I'm not about to wimp out. Give me all of your stuff since you'd give it up so easy. What guarantee do I have I won't get shot or knifed after I give up my wallet?

You've only proven what an easy target you would be. If you don't want a gun don't get one. No one is making you and we don't care if your defenseless. That's your choice. Or you could recite the thief the law. That should keep you from being robbed and then shot or knifed. I'll hold onto my gun and you hold onto to your nads.

Actually in texas you can legally shoot them in the back in that situation, so I'd just do that. Assuming its at night of course. I'm just pointing out that they're asking you to reach for things, getting a few shots off isn't out of the norm. Nor do most stick around to shoot it out, whether you hit them or not. They panic and run, which is what most armed victims do as well. Often no one is actually shot.
    See DGU stats.

Of course thieves use different weapons to attack. I’m sure it’s a matter of what they have avaialable. I’ve simply presented a worst case scenario that happens in real life.

Why would I give you anything? You’re not in a position to threaten my life.

You’ve given them what they wanted. Assuming they didn’t shoot you from the get go, they probably don’t have the goal of murdering you once they have what they’re after, but then who knows. Thieves probably don’t offer guarantees.

You're so naïve. They don't want witnesses. They'll kill you even if you're broke. In fact having no money might really piss them off. Be happy in your defenselessness and just keep deluding yourself.

Then your mind is more criminal than the thief.

So what's the problem? What do your think you should do .... take out a loan?

I guess I’ll just rely on my thirty-one years of experience, including six years in the Army, that have shown me I’ve never been in a position where carrying a firearm would have prevented a crime or made me any safer. I suspect that will most likely remain true for the remainder of my life.

If they planned to kill me regardless they’d likely do it before I’d have a chance to defend myself. A thief can pull a wallet a lot easier than waiting for it to be handed over. If they make the threat there’s plenty of reason to believe that’s the most they intend to do if you comply.

Fine. Like I said, no one cares what you do. I'm also ex Army, so what? That doesn't make you special or safe.
