My thoughts? The time you spend on this forum could be better spent in school where you could learn a marketable trade. There is plenty of money out there, you just need some tools and the ambition to go and get it. Now that would be progress.

Great advice, but getting through to a closed mind will likely be a challenge.

Instead of DERAILING the thread which is a PF RULE VIOLATION I recommend that you start your own thread if that is what you want to rant about. All further responses attempting to derail the thread will be reported.

Shareholders are taking a risk, even by today's standards. Corporations were moving overseas because they were not competitive
due to the high cost of labor and benefits. If the capital gains tax is raised to 75%, the wealthy won't spend what they don't have
and working middle-class Americans will be affected. What concerns me are the tariffs, a stock market that serves the wealthy,
a huge tax reduction for the wealthy, a coming reduction in the capital gains tax, a failing health care system, failing social security and
Medicare programs, but the wealthy got a huge tax cut. Makes no sense.

What does that have to do with it? It's a tired old saw this white privilege thing, that dog don't hunt son. You said,"Latina women earn just 54 cents compared to the dollar earned by white males." Is that all latina women vs all white males? Anyone can take a sample and claim their numbers mean something. You want to talk white privilege? We as Americans (illegals are not part of the equation) have equal rights and equal access to public education it's the law. If you opt not to take advantage of free education then you pretty much earn what you deserve, white or hispanic. That's what America is all about, self determination, and self sufficiency. You have a welfare mentality when it comes to employment, that income is an entitlement, it is not and no laws should ever exist to make it so. It is not about race or gender it's about one's industry. I know many non whites who came to the US without a cent in their pocket, did not speak english but had heard about this place where if you were willing to sweat some, you could be what ever you wanted to be including wealthy. Many of these people are millionaires today and never excepted a nickel in public assistance. How would you characterize their privilege? Income inequality is a false issue, what we are talking about is class envy which is at the root of all liberal arguments. Class is not a given, it's something earned and in America it's an equal opportunity employer. If you want desire a lifestyle you have to work for it, it's that simple and the only real barrier to that is making poor life decisions.

The wealthy NEVER spend even a small fraction of what they earn. Furthermore they are a very small subset of consumers so their contribution is negligible as far as the economy is concerned.

Putting that same money into the paychecks of hardworking middle class Americans will do far more to boost the economy than any miniscule drop in spending by the wealthy elite.

None of the Republican/Libertarian fiscal malfeasance policies make any sense at all.

Thoughts? Certainly, not more of the near-sighted limited thinking of the people who wrote that article.
The argument there is that many of the competitors in the contest of life never score- and ignores the fact that they aren't willing to compete or perform; they just want the score.
It ignores the fact that earning a living wage depends most on what you bring to the table, what you make yourself worth. If that is nothing, you are being fairly compensated at any wage.
It hinges on the idea that somebody else should pay for most everything.... so that those who basically won't take charge of their own lives and be responsible can prosper.
I assumes that the poor are poor by accident; that somehow people who do well knew how to do well before they learned how to do well- that somehow, we are all entitled to the same rewards of in life, regardless of our own choices and actions.

It assumes you have little to do with the conditions of your own life, that you have no power.... and those who do have power over their own lives have somehow stolen yours.
It promotes self-pity, not self-respect. It insists that the consequences of your own actions are events beyond your control, and somebody else is responsible for them.
It assumes- that society is supposed to pick up where your parents left off, and support you.
Well- if you believe that, your parents did a miserable job, and raised an adolescent child to be an adult child who is still unable and unwilling to stand on his own two feet.

Perhaps that is why the number of young adults that are living with their parents today is setting records.
Americans ages 18-34 are today more likely to live with their parents than in any other living situation, including being married or living with a partner- over 32% of them.
The number of people in the younger generations who simply won't do for themselves, who refuse to become self-sufficient and believe that they are entitled to be supported by someone else keeps growing, with the encouragement of those promoting the idea of entitlement, of free everything, of dependency.... promoting weakness and gullibility rather than strength and wisdom.

Any person with a lick of good sense would be wise enough to ask what the real motives behind that are. While the promised short-term benefits sound good to the those lacking in self respect- the fact is that they wouldn't be sustainable, no matter what the form was, and the long term consequences are disastrous for all of us.

It's like fish bait- the promise of an easy reward right now that you don't have to work for... and if that is all you see, you are indeed gullible. There is always a string attached, always somebody on the other end of the offer of something for nothing.... and he is smarter than the fish who takes the bait and winds up in the frying pan.

    Disinformation is from the left.

Income inequality has grown in recent years, because of liberal political policies. One is letting immigrants into the country and we now have 27 MILLION legal and illegal immigrants in our workforce.

There is NO EXCUSE for that many after coming out of a severe recesson.

75% of business overhead is employee expense. My point is that if unskilled people are paid a living wage, what would skilled people
be paid? Their wages would skyrocket due to their skills and business overhead would also skyrocket. Prices would have to increase
to offset the huge wages and that would severely hurt the bottom line which would result in layoffs.

Except that DOES NOT HAPPEN in civilized nations where living wages are paid.

Any idea why that does not happen?

Yes, I agree that the working middle class should have benefited from Trump's tax policies rather than the wealthy.

I encourage you to exercise that prerogative ... I think spam should should be discouraged. I'm confident my posts, that reference the failed "progressive agenda's" contribution to low wages are on topic ... No matter how inconvenient those facts are. Illegal workers decrease wages and take jobs from liberal academias under achieving students. Yet the "progressive agenda" supports sanctuary, in absence of amnesty, and urges illegals to vote. The paradox is obvious ... as is your discomfort. The "progressive agenda" is laid bare in Mexifornia ... the progressive caliphates seat of power. I doubt you can provide an example of greater wage / standard of living disparity anywhere on the planet. Why has the "progressive agenda" failed?

WHY is anyone entitled to a "living wage"? Because they are alive?
EARNING a wage is not the same as getting one or being entitled to one- because earning means you traded equivalent value for it. NONE of the existing laws such as minimum wages ever mention the obligation to deliver that value.

IF you are not willing to earn your wage, you are a parasite, sucking the blood of those willing to work harder than you. That entitles you to nothing, or worse. Except of course in socialist mind, but that is delusion.

In a free market- the price of everything is controlled by value and demand. If you provide a needed skill and do it well, people are anxious to pay for it. The greater the value or your skill, the more they are willing to pay. That is precisely why top performers make top money, and the other end of the workforce gets the minimum. The opportunity to be worth more is available to absolutely everyone.

It's not unlike buying bananas at the market. Premium goods get sell quickly at high price- but poor quality gets less interest, and if it sells it will bring a poor price. The concept of a "living wage" is that no matter how unfit the poor quality is, people should pay a disproportionate price for them. The catch is that nobody will buy them.

You are worth what you make yourself worth. If your current employer thinks that is less than you do, you have a right to offer your services at the price you think they are worth to any buyer in the world. If none of them agree with what you think you are worth- maybe you aren't.

A job is a business deal, and an employee is a small businessman, selling his personal product to a single customer, who is a businessman selling his product to many customers.
The buyers of those products determine what they are worth- and the success of the business depends on delivering value worth the money. They are not entitled to the equivalent of a "living wage" regardless of the value they deliver- and neither is the small businessman we call an employee.

When people are paid living wages they no longer depend upon government welfare to fill the gap between the pittance they are earning and the amount that they need to live on. This group of hardworking Americans is not as large as most people imagine it is either.

However there is a vast difference in what happens with the money that ends up in their paychecks versus the bloated dividends that end up in the offshore bank accounts of the wealthy.

The wealthy don't spend that money which means it goes OUT of CIRCULATION as far as the economy is concerned. However those who are now earning a living wage spend their money which means more money circulating in the economy. This expands the economy which boosts the earnings of the corporations meaning that they can afford higher wages.

In the most simple of terms putting money into the paychecks of hardworking American consumers is far more beneficial to the economy than putting it into the offshore bank accounts of the wealthy 1% elite.

If that were the case why would every company in America just hire Latina women. A 46% reduction in their labor costs would make this a no brainer.
