Business (especially small ones) do not have the cash flow to meet huge payrolls which will result in layoffs. Big business will move.They can't be put between a rock and a hard place because that leaves them with choices that will only hurt the working middle class. And the wealthy will stop spending as the boat tax of many years ago proved.

Wages have not been flatlined in the least, they go up and down and tend to do best in Republican growing economies. And don't know about you but I got lots of profits in my retirement accounts. If you do choose to have ownership in business then don't complain about not getting profits you don't deserve them nor are they owed to you.

You have the right now go out and do it.

Well go tell the colleges to lower their tuition and stop putting the screws on the students. Then tell the students that they should take the extra earnings the get from their degree and apply that to their student loans and have them paid off in a few years and not to expect those of us without a college degree to pay for theirs.

I am a boomer and I have a nice retirement account which I will be starting to use in a couple of years along with my SS. It's up to you to commit to your retirement and not expect others to pay for it.

in October 2007 and stimulus packages were put into place to goose the stagnating economy.

OK, just to be clear, Obama became President January 20, 2009, so yeah the recession was over five months later.

This is where the problem comes in. What are the necessary bills? Cable TV with sports network? Beer, dope, and cigarettes? Filet Mignon? 58" TV? 2,000 sq ft home? Escalade with 24" chrome rims? I posit that a living wage should cover beans, rice, potatoes, ground meat, vitamin tablets, and a tent. If a person wants more, then obtain skills, get a better job, be productive, and be an asset to his/her employer.

 

And by extension, every actor should earn the same pay? Every basketball player? Every CEO? Every musician? Every electrician? Every artist?
A person's work is worth only what someone else is willing to pay for it and that is how it should be.

Small businesses are going under because they can't afford to compete against the pittance wages being paid in 3rd world nations.

Who actually gives a crap about the wealthy not buying their Nth luxury floating gin palace? It isn't as though the entire economy depends upon their frivolous spending habits.

 

A right is anything We the People decide that we want to make into a right. We can make housing into a right and education and even food if we so wanted.
