I know this sounds silly, but as well as observing Trump politically I've been binge watching his former TV show The Apprentice and I think I've hit upon what makes Trump different and what one of the secrets of his success is.

There is a problem in the west, sometimes called "virtue signaling" but even that I think may only be part of a larger problem. This greater problem might be named "incremental lying." Incremental lying is when someone tells a small white lie, counting on you to be polite and let them save face by not calling them on it. Then they add another small white lie, and another one, then once they think they have you, they try to force you to argue with them from a position that is based upon an aggregation of their misrepresentations.

What I've noticed about Trump is that the second someone misrepresents something or tells a lie of any kind, he calls them on it, usually immediately and reflexively. This means that he often does it mid-sentence. He doesn't allow anyone to build up a false narrative. In doing this he comes across as a total jerk but he also keeps things centered upon the reality of a situation (as he understands it) and not upon whatever aggregate fantasy the person he was talking to may have been trying to build.

There are lots of good reasons for being polite, particularly in traditional societies, but I think the exceptions have been eating the rule for some time now. We are essentially "post-fact" because people get away with building up fake dialogues, bit by bit, until they expect to proceed under the pretenses or conditions of their constructed dialogue. Trump is successful because he doesn't allow this to happen. Notably, he usually remembers to preface his disagreement with a statement that it's his opinion or perception. If done properly, I think Trump's approach is a very appropriate way to handle many things in life and his success can be taken as evidence of that.

Trump lies all the time.. I am not sure I understand you..

Trump couches the most outrageous crap by saying "it seems".

What Trump has II Doge been watching? The one I've watched is an outright liar and crook. And he's proving it now as he goes back on promises, pays out to stop having to go to court.

Actually.... I think that he is like a verbal chess player......
he says what he needs to say to lead a group of people to
support him in a gambit designed to produce an outcome that can be quite different than the simplistic
understanding that his words might at first indicate.

Watch as the murder of Christians, members of the LGBT community, Yazidis and other minorities worldwide by Islamic militants decreases and decreases
and decreases between January 20, 2017 to January 20, 2020.

President Elect Donald Trump knew that his words would save lives.......
a little fear and respect for the USA President has many advantages over the politically
correct verbal perfectionism that President Obama's administration seemed to be striving for.

Sounds like he's been watching the Apprentice.. That reality show was carefully scripted, with multiple takes, heavy editing.. When I watch Trump, I think he's still paying that part.

    He sure is a bully.

He certainly keeps changing his mind. I only hope he doesn't press the Nuclear button, and then think 'Should I have done that?'

His willingness to change his mind toward Mr. Mitt Romney does seem like a genius move to me......
The Donald doesn't hold grudges quite like so many others would tend to do in the same situation.

That is certainly a positive thing!

Most jerks are somewhat nice on the outside, Trump is a jerk the whole way through. That is the difference.

Donald Trump is a World Class liar. But the one thing that make him different is that his supporters will believe anything he says, no matter how ridiculous or outrageous it is.

One day someone will write a book to help describe the 2016 election, and Trump supporters. The title should be, "Gullibles Travels."

Your Donald Trump exists in horror stories. His rhetoric during the campaign was that of a man possessed by hate. Threats on all sides. Nothing positive about him as the US will find out.

Seems the US likes hatred , not all but enough to make life hell for those the Donald doesn't like.

Freedom of Speech is going the way of the Dodo bird...Freedom of religion ? bye-bye. Must Register and only approved religions can screech hate from the pulpit...

There will now be a National contest to see how well children are taught to ridicule and mock the disabled...the highest scorers get a place in Trump's corporations, their parents , the Medal of "Honor".
