I gotta admit, I didn't even know he was being charged. Yes, what he did was cowardly...but charge worthy? That to me is a trial forced due to outrage and politics rather than the law and facts.

Yup. I mean I think he's kinda a pos. I bet he thinks that too. Definitely he wasn't up to the job he was collecting a paycheck for, and probably some kids would still be alive if someone more suited to the task had been getting paid to do his job instead of him. But you cant make it a crime for someone to not charge into a gunfight.

I don't know that I would say it was cowardly though if I were there I would like to think I would have tried to do something. There seems to be a few potential issues at play here. One is that we are just now starting to go from a more siege and wait for SWAT response to a more first one there is first one through the door approach. I can buy the not sure where the noise was coming from. Acoustics around my house are real funky like that where you can't always tell what direction a loud noise is coming from because of the way it echoes around. It may be that he was relying on old school training instead of newer techniques.

If he couldn't tell where the shots were coming from he should have started searching for the shooter. He was not unlike a soldier who freezes in combat. Those soldiers end up with a dishonorable discharge and a little time in the stockade. Extreme cases can be shot. I think Peterson should have been fired, but not charged with a crime. His other penalty would have been being disgraced in the news.

fired, certainly. but this incident does highlight the stupidity of armed guards to protect the kids.

do you think the school shootings are fads? that they will eventually stop on their own?

On the contrary, armed guards, or the police, will eventually stop a killer on a murdering spree. Armed guards can save a life. Just ask Pres Truman.
Maybe the school shooting "fad" will eventually stop but I don't see the "fad" to kill a group of people ever stopping.

Having an open campus without secured entrances is what it shows is foolish.
If there was one entrance and dumbass there was sat at his post, the shooter would've had to come through him.

I'm not so sure ONE person that got cold feet in a dangerous situation can be the basis for saying armed guards don't work, but good luck with that angle
