Can't legislators think of a NEW way to bamboozle their extremist constituents? Guess not, these "personhood" bills are popping up in states all over the nation. http://www.rhrealitycheck.org/article/2012/01/05/colorado-board-approves-amendment-title-again The third attempt in Colorado to pass a constitutional amendment declaring a fertilized egg is a person is well underway with state board approval of the ballot title. Via the Denver Post: The ballot title states the amendment concerns extension of constitutional rights to all humans at any stage of development, and it declares protections of life "apply equally to all innocent persons." It further prohibits "the intentional killing of any innocent person." The ballot title "clarifies" that the amendment affects only "methods of birth control or assisted reproduction that kill an innocent person."
It is nice to finally see a law that protects the rights of rapists to procreate and pass their genes on. After all, if we can not stop religious nuts from it why should rapists be any less?
Taxpayers get stuck in a number of ways. One, they are paying salaries for legislators spending their time on useless bills and therefore not getting any real work done. Two, they are footing the bill for election expenses, printing ballots, etc. All the money spent on campaigning on both sides could be better spent helping living children.
If that wording is correct, it would ban abortions even in cases of rape and incest (and some contraception methods which can induce abortion, such as morning after pill). This would backifire hard on them - while pro-life people make around half, those who are pro-life even in cases of rape and incest make a small minority. Colorado organizations protecting women rights just have to make sure moderate pro-life people know what exactly they are supporting with this.
They will have to completely redefine the meaning of 'person' then. And all this does is ban birth control, which won't happen, and its about time they got that through their heads and pulle their heads out of uteruses.
Did you even read the article? This has NOTHING to do with abortion. Its about banning BIRTH CONTROL!
So chemical forms of birth control go out the window. Let's see...teach abstinence only in school, make chemical forms of birth control illegal....and then complain and wonder why abortion rates aren't going down. That some real logical thinking right there.
