You know if you want to make this point seriously you will have to accept nuance in the discussion. Before we go there of course we have to say that the treatment that Obama got from conservatives was in no way respectful, nor was the treatment Clinton got; the treatment that GWB got from liberals was not respectful either. The GOP in Congress made it very clear that it wanted to shut down Obama's agenda whatever it was. Trump's disrespect for the President of the United States is there for anyone who cares to look (or remember).

As to media and how you take it, well of course bias can be a problem. But all media is biased. Reality is shaped by belief as well as facts. Belief is dangerous unless it is continuously checked and challenged. What is required is to filter the media using your judgement and experience and also to seek out other points of view. It requires intelligent processing not a knee-jerk reaction.

I get a lot of my news from the Guardian which is a liberal website. But I also read Commentary which gives a neocon view. And I watch Fox occasionally and I read the WSJ and Ruper Murdoch's (London) Times. I read liberal and conservative historians. If you are curious about ideas you will seek out those you don't agree with. You will find that for serious thinkers, rather than soundbyte Twitter trolls, differences of opinion are usually subtle and nuanced and that there is much more agreement than disagreement.

Unfortunately my experience is that 99% of conservatives (there are a handful of exceptions) on sites like this are merely culture warriors (as are probably a high percentage of "liberals" as well) who are on here for a bit of fratboy taunting of those they disagree with. Culture wars are what has killed democratic politics and made it into a hatefest. Wars that come from a deeply intolerance of difference of opinion from both sides. Infantile stuff really. But the POTUS feeds this. It's him that tweets, not the "MSM".

    Are you serious???

Tapper: OK. I mean, I’m just talking about David Duke and the Ku Klux Klan here, but…

Trump: I don’t know any — honestly, I don’t know David Duke. I don’t believe I have ever met him. I’m pretty sure I didn’t meet him. And I just don’t know anything about him.

Trump clearly knew Duke is a bigot, a racist, but then claimed he knew nothing. Please.....

That's just rubbish isn't it. The Trump quote also says "I just don't know anything about him" which is clearly the same as saying "he doesn't know of him" as you say.

You call for honesty. Now is your denial just a mistake or is it dishonesty?

Unless we can see in your heart we cannot know. But it is pure bollocks as surely you can see now.

Why? "Blind unreasoned stupid hatred" seems to be the quintessential hallmark of American politics - emanating from any and all sides depending on who is in office.

By doing what? 'Silencing' them? LOL

What is your evidence of that?

So your evidence (asked for above) pre-dates Trump's claim to ignorance?

It's baffling that in this day and age anyone can say they don't have access to "the truth". Perhaps it's not served up ready-made and sanitized but people are not solely dependent, as they once were, on a handful of real-world newspapers and TV channels - with their own leanings. Today, we can find out anything we want in a matter of seconds, and check the veracity of reporting for ourselves. Given the ease with which we can do this, it's fatuous and naive to complain that news reporting is something it's never been - entirely and 100% impartial and fact-based, or claim a dependence on such reporting. Thanks to the internet, "guessing the truth" has never been easier, or less like a guess.

Of course it does. Your post assumes that the other Republican candidates would be as stupid and lie as much as Trump. That would be an almost impossible standard for anyone but a narcissist and pathological lier to achieve.

How could Trump not know that Duke was a bigot and a racist. After all he was a big Trump supporter.

It is not my responsibility to substantiate YOUR CLAIM. If you have no evidence, please admit as much.

It's too late. The masses are addicted and in a feeding frenzy. They have been programmed by a toxic evil media for the past year or more. We are in a state of Jesus on the cross >> "Father, forgive them, they know not what they do."

    Agree 100%.

Those who buy in to the hysteria are not thinking straight. I'm not so sure we should be encouraging that situation...

When people stop being able to think for themselves, very bad things can happen. That's a dangerous situation to have to deal with.

I believe the part " forgive them, they know not what they do" was the gist of the comment. Admit it, you guys (leftist) are being led around by the nose by the media.

My assertion is that Trump's personal characteristics have zero connection to the hate and rage the radical Democrats would have shown to no matter who defeated their beloved got-it-in-the-bag Hillary.

Ah law. That thing that doesn't apply to anyone the Black One wants to convict. (Just wanted to illustrate how dumb such statements sound...).

Google Tea Party violence. Nobody is more violent than the far right. Right wing hero Timothy McVeigh is one such example.

He was obviously referring to knowing him PERSONALLY. Boy people are stupid. REALLY stupid. Funny, people will interpret the worst out of that, but when Obama said "You can keep your doctor" all the left united in agreement that he didn't literally mean you can keep your actual doctor....how silly of you all to misinterpret such an obvious statement. Hypocrisy!!!!
