There will be no impeachment. In fact, McCarthy's inquiry is launched without a formal vote, a vote which they are required to do, and bound by an OLC opinion rendered during Trump administration.

    https://www.politico.com/news/2023/09/12/trump-doj-assist-biden-impeachment-probe-00115393

In January 2020, the Donald Trump-led Justice Department formally declared that impeachment inquiries by the House are invalid unless the chamber takes formal votes to authorize them.

That opinion — issued by the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel — came in response to then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s decision to launch an impeachment inquiry into Trump without initially holding a vote for it. Not only is it still on the books, it is binding on the current administration as it responds to Tuesday’s announcement by Speaker Kevin McCarthy to authorize an impeachment inquiry into Biden, again without a vote.

    See:
    https://www.justice.gov/d9/opinions/attachments/2020/01/20/2020-01-19-impeach-invest.pdf

There simply isn't enough votes to impeach. 18 House Repubs are in districts that Joe won in, and it is not likely they will vote to impeach.

“In the history of our Nation, the House of Representatives has never attempted to launch an impeachment inquiry against the President without a majority of the House taking political accountability for that decision by voting to authorize such a dramatic constitutional step,” Cipollone wrote on Oct. 8, 2019. But it wasn’t until January that the Justice Department formally backed up his position.

    Not to mention:

I suspect there are a number of House Repubs in swing districts who want nothing to do with being on the record in support of an impeachment inquiry. This whole endeavor is what it looks like when Kev bends over for MTG and the Freedom Caucus nuts.

What talk of impeachment is really about is creating a counter narrative to the trials Don is about to face. Though one presiding judge is clearly in no hurry to get the trial going.

Aileen Cannon Is Taking Her Own Sweet Time In The Mar-a-Lago Case

Welp, we’re coming up on a month since U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon issued any meaningful orders or rulings in the Mar-a-Lago documents case – and frankly that’s a generous application of the word “meaningful.”

Back on Aug. 17, Cannon did issue an order but it was more notable for kicking the can on the case than actually moving it forward. And since then, very little has happened in the Mar-a-Lago case. If you’re watching closely to see if Cannon is slow-rolling the case to the benefit of Trump, whose entire legal strategy at this point across multiple prosecutions is delay, then the past month is plenty cause for concern.

Here’s what Cannon still hasn’t done:

    1. Issued a protective order covering the handling of classified documents in the case.
    2. Held Garcia hearings on the potential conflicts of interest facing two of the defense counsel in the case.
But it’s actually even a little worse than that: Cannon hasn’t even scheduled hearings on these matters yet, even though they’ve been pending in one form or another for weeks.

Imagine how Repubs would squeal if Joe followed Don's lead.

Trump Vows Stonewall of ‘All’ House Subpoenas, Setting Up Fight Over Powers

WASHINGTON — The Trump administration escalated its defiance of Congress on Wednesday, as the Justice Department refused to let an official testify on Capitol Hill and President Trump vowed to fight what he called a “ridiculous” subpoena ordering a former top aide to appear before lawmakers.

“We’re fighting all the subpoenas,” Mr. Trump told reporters outside the White House. “These aren’t, like, impartial people. The Democrats are trying to win 2020.”

The moves added to an already remarkable week of stonewalling by the Trump administration after the release of the report by the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, that revealed the scope of the Russian operation to help Mr. Trump win the 2016 election and detailed his attempts to impede an investigation he saw as imperiling his presidency.

Mr. Trump’s flurry of moves this week to block multiple congressional investigations signaled a new phase of constitutional friction that could redefine long-murky boundaries of Congress’s power to conduct oversight of the executive branch — and the power of presidents to keep government affairs secret from lawmakers.

This what talk of impeachment is about.

Trump Has Been Privately Encouraging G.O.P. Lawmakers to Impeach Biden

Over the past several months, Mr. Trump has kept a close watch on House Republicans’ momentum toward impeaching Mr. Biden. Mr. Trump has talked regularly by phone with members of the ultraconservative House Freedom Caucus and other congressional Republicans who pushed for impeachment, according to a person close to Mr. Trump who was not authorized to publicly discuss the conversations. Mr. Trump has encouraged the effort both privately and publicly.

Ms. Greene, who has introduced articles of impeachment against Mr. Biden, said she told Mr. Trump that she wanted the impeachment inquiry to be “long and excruciatingly painful for Joe Biden.”

What I don't understand, and what I have not seen any explanation concerning, is how can a sitting President of the United States be impeached for crimes committed while he was VICE-President?!

I view Joe Biden as being little more than a decades-long mediocrity (at best)... a 'go-along-to-get-along' windup toy that the Democratic Party elite have used for decades as a dependable support for their agenda. BUT -- that doesn't mean that Biden has committed any impeachable offenses during the time he is/was President of the U. S.!

And, even IF it were clearly shown that he was indeed the "Big Guy" of the emails, proving that he was the actual head of what amounted to a criminal, influence-peddling enterprise involving the whole Biden clan, if there is no evidence that he did anything criminal after he became a sitting-President of the United States, then how can he be impeached?! I have not heard a single word from any of the 'experts' about how an impeachment initiative could be supported unless his crimes were committed after becoming the President! :confusion:

There is ample evidence that Biden and son are crooked. Only Fox News will explain the mountain of evidence against Joe and Hunter Biden and their extended family members. Plus there are at least two whistleblowers who have come forward with evidence. Plus one business partner of Hunter is talking about the Biden schemes. And don't forget Hunter's laptop. Oh, did I mention the video of Joe telling how he got the prosecutor in Ukraine fired because he was investigating Hunter?
Many people don't know about this mountain of evidence because the MSM is ignoring it. Why protect a crooked president?

Let's have a look at it all with a impeachment inquiry and find out why the VP and his family was never investigated by the DOJ in the first place... What did Joe know and when did he know it? It seems not long Joe Biden stepped up on the presidential debate stage and told lie after lie about Hunter and the fake Intel officers..

The real head banger is the fact that the US government, including Obama, knew what Hunter was pulling off, and to think they did not relay that all to Joe Biden, not to protect the Biden family, but to protect the messiah Obama and the US government from blow back...

Who says Joe Biden is not pulling money from those shady deals to this day???
Please tell us about the special counsel investigation into this "reasonable suspicion" Comer uncovered.... and remember.... Comer is only providing oversight and exposing that the DOJ/FBI is covering up for the Biden family... Comer is publicly "suggesting" they are working on Biden offshore accounts... Why is Comer doing the job of the FBI?
Boy won't that open up a can of worms if that becomes a fact through a house investigation instead of the FBI investigation...

Joe Biden seemed to forget to release all his tax return in 2017? Oooopsy… looks like he may have missed releasing the S-corp return where a strange $10 mil showed up…. Just in time the “delayed” bribe money came in… did anyone check into that? Hopefully Comer will look into it….

Looks like we found that mysterious bribe in the bribe scheme

    See post #8

Where is the special counsel into this?? What did Joe know and when did he know it.... Grassley calls out why "The Big Guy" and the rest of the family was not paid at time of service, but after Joe left office ..... " the communist Chinese government included assisting them with potential business deals and investments while Joe Biden was Vice President; however, that work remained intentionally uncompensated while Joe Biden was Vice President. "" So now my 2017 tax return in post 34 makes more since.... Joe (big guy, see next post) was not paid as he was VP, but delayed until 2017 when he was out of office...

Nothing here.... move along... all on the up and up ..... it is a fake news CNN article so take it for what it is worth... another "we got to see a secret letter no one else has" article... once again the Biden administration is covering up for Biden... ""The White House memo to media organization leadership included a 14-page appendix comprehensively fact-checking what it called "key lies" being pushed by House Republicans."" as we see once again the WH does their own "fact checking" without any push back or counter responses that uncovers their own lies and misdeeds..."By controlling the language, Big Brother controls the way that the people think."

You have a point and they can't,. but there is zero evidence of any wrongdoing by Joe Biden. So, your point is moot.
Trump paid lip service to an infrastructure bill, one that America desparately needed, and couldn't get it done when he had both houses.
Biden, within the first 300 days of his first time, with only one house, got a bipartisan infrastructure bill passed, one that is historically on par with
Eisenhower's highway project. That puts Biden among the better presidents.
None of those emails prove squat. If a trial were ever held, Republicans are going to look like morons.

    And, finally, the truth:

I already made that point. And like Pelosi, at some point the vote will be taken, probably when there is an issue of the corrupt Bribed Biden Administration obstructing evidence and without the formal vote, it cannot be resolved in the House's favor.

And, there will either be 218 votes or not.

How many Republicans do you think will want to go on record as taking a recorded vote to let Bribed Biden skate on obstruction of congress?

That answer depends on how many Republicans are being blackmailed by the corrupt FBI, and that vote will reveal who they are, so, it's worth taking the vote when The Speaker determines that the time is right.

We all know that Bribed Joe is guilty as sin of selling the office of the Vice Presidency to corrupt foreign Oligarchs, including Ukraine. Those bribes are probably why the US taxpayer is underwriting the Ukraine/Russia war.

And after they get done blowing everything up, then they will expect the US taxpayer to pay for rebuilding the whole damn thing. Those $Millions the corrupt Ukrainians gave the Biden Crime family is the best money they ever spent. I wish that Bribed Joe would give the Americans who were paying for his paycheck the same level of service he gives the foreign Oligarchs that bribe him.

If the SecDef later ran for and was elected President and then it came out he sold secrets to a foreign adversary as SecDef you don't think Congress would and should impeach them for it? What about a AG who becomes President and we find out the Mafia or a drug cartel had been paying them off? The impeachment clause is not limited to while as President.

There is ample evidence he was not only aware of, in spite of his false statements otherwise, but participated in, in spite of his false statements otherwise, and facilitated the enrichment of the Biden family, in spite of his false statements otherwise, by selling tens of millions in influence and access to his political position. That you are unable to show how it was all easily explainable and above board further adds to that, why don't we know?

    And your evidence is what?
    And your evidence is what?
You absolutely have zero evidence that Joe committed bribery, or any crime.

    1. August 2023: Comer's report alleged that President Biden received bribes from foreign countries. However, the memo didn't show any direct payment to Joe Biden. A Washington Post analysis also found no evidence of the alleged $5 million paid to Joe Biden by Zlochevsky after three months of investigation. [Page 2]

    2. July 2023: Comer's much-hyped IRS whistleblowers testified under oath that neither President Biden nor Attorney General Garland interfered in the IRS and DOJ's investigation into Hunter Biden. [Page 3]

    3. July 2023: Comer's supposed star witness, a business associate of Hunter Biden, failed to provide any evidence of President Biden doing anything wrong in relation to Hunter Biden's business ventures. [Page 3]

    4. May – July 2023: Comer and Senator Chuck Grassley failed to produce evidence of bribery after subpoenaing the FBI. The document they obtained was an uncorroborated FBI tip. The owner of Ukrainian energy firm Burisma had already rebutted these allegations in 2019. [Page 4]

    5. June 2023: Comer claimed that bribery allegations against Joe Biden had nothing to do with Rudy Giuliani. However, Giuliani himself took credit for raising the allegations. [Page 4]

    6. June 2023: Comer hyped the existence of audio tapes supposedly proving President Biden accepted a bribe. However, he later admitted not knowing if they "really exist." [Page 5]

    7. June – August 2023: Comer falsely claimed that the Biden family took more than $20 million from foreign nations. However, only about $7 million could be directly attributed to Biden family members. [Page 5]

    8. April & May 2023: Comer's second bank memo failed to produce evidence linking President Biden to any claims. Even conservative critics noted the lack of evidence. [Page 6]

    9. April 2023: Comer misrepresented whistleblowers and refused to produce evidence substantiating his claims. [Page 6]

    10. February 2023: Comer pushed a "factually unsupported narrative" about the federal government colluding with Twitter. [Page 7]

    11. December 2022: Comer claimed that the 'Twitter Files' showed evidence of collusion on Fox News, but this was not supported by the documents. [Page 7]

    12. November 2022: Comer claimed to have "evidence of federal crimes" during a press conference. However, his report failed to name a single crime. [Page 7]

    13. October 2022: Fact-checkers called out Comer for making false and unsubstantiated claims about Hunter Biden's foreign business dealings. [Page 7]

My point was more on the OLC opinion which binds the DOJ, not the votes.

Was the opinion mentioned before? If so, I haven't seen it.
