Thread Titles to avoid

I'm struck by the fact that any thread title beginning with 'Obama' is not going to be worth reading, consisting entirely of someone's morning bile, and anything containing 'OWS' and some reference to crime/urination/dirt is always drivel. 'Islam' and its variants is another turn-off: it always means someone is full of desperate hatred of what he (usually 'he') knows nothing whatever about - and often emanates from a certain party in a certain area in the Middle East, which shall be nameless. From Americans 'Socialism' tends to have a similar switch-off-your-mind effect. Do other people have similar reactions to other triggers?

 

You have to consider the title and the thread starter...

You have some people on here, left & right, who dislike certain people, but, will approach the topic of the thread in a reasonable manner worth debating...

Others, however, just hit up their LW or RW blog source, and repost the latest, greatest horse(*)(*)(*)(*) they can find...

I, personally, think both can be fun...

However, what you're talking about, knowing the types of threads that certain posters have a penchant for starting can help you on your quest...

 

There are a group of people from the right and the left whose threads I won't even bother reading because these people are trouble makers or insane.

 

Why don't you go and find a Welsh forum to join? American issues obviously don't interest you and you have nothing to add to them anyway.

There is a large percentage of people who seem to view discussion and debate as equivalent to cheering for a sports team -- mindlessly chant the cheer and insult the opposing side.

I suppose given the great emphasis we as a nation place on sports and entertainment that should be no surprise.

I find I really can't be bothered with a lot of these threads anymore.

I don't mind having an intelligent discussion with someone I don't see eye to eye on an issue with - I do it all the time ... but here it seems that most people starting the kinds of thread you mention are doing so with the express purpose of displaying their ignorance, bigotry or both.

good point ... i guess reason is irrelevant if you (not you specifically) are barracking for your team.

of course people want their team to win .... but its not good sportsmanship to constanty denigarte the opponent ... too much of that makes your team look like a bunch of losers as well - even if they do win.

 

IMO, thread titles are meant to give a clue about the topic, so I don't see anything wrong with starting off with OBAMA or ISLAM or whatever... this is a political forum, not a literary contest.

Speaking of thread titles, I wonder if folks realize their title determines whether their topic comes up when goggled? For example, this is what you get if you google this thread title:
