There is an article in todays Drudge report saying that as of yesterday less than 2,000 people had been tested for coronavirus nationwide. This seems like an awfully low number relative to all the publicity and hoopla surrounding the virus and the direct White House involvement.

Well you can only test people who show up at the hospital with the appropriate symptoms.

Fifty states and only less than 2,000 tested seems awfully inadequate to me.

Have you got to the hospital to be tested? Or should the government go door to door? I mean I am not sure what this number really means in the grand scheme of things?

We just had a case added here in Pa. despite his being hospitalized with the diagnosis of coronavirus he has not been tested. They are assuming that's what he has, evidently they do not have test kits. They have just closed a bunch of school systems in my area of Pa.

China fumbled this at first, then bought the world precious time with it's historic lock-down. We wasted it. We should have been doing widespread testing weeks ago. Heads will roll for this.

One of the reasons why the those numbers are low is because of American personal hygiene. Compared to the rest of the world America is squeaky clean. Those personal habits translates into a much cleaner, healthier environment. When traveling abroad the first thing one notices is the difference in both and that becomes more noticeable the further east one travels. In this the 21st century there are still places in the world where there exists open sewers and undrinkable water. One of the most populated countries, China is also one of the filthiest and so it is unsurprising that they have a crisis of epic proportions on their hands. Also in those countries medicine and disease control are still primitive comparatively speaking. Sadly America rates low on other health issues such as obesity/diabetes, heart disease and lung diseases, a lot of which are preventable. America is probably the best prepared country in terms of viral diseases although with uncontrolled immigration the instances of formerly eradicated diseases are on the rise. With the level of preparedness and the narrow group of those who may be infected corona virus in the US is much less a concern than the media would have you believe.

I think the truth is, many many American already have it, they know this, and do not want to cause a panic, but they can't say that

most Americans will only be effected like a common cold, the panic could be worse than the virus to society

the worse part is, Trump tried to do this, but his credibility is shot, and his lies are obvious, I am glad he passed this off to Pence - Trump is not up for any task that is not something he can brag about and concerns the well-being of others

it doesn't help either though that Pence has to constantly massage Trump's ego during the daily briefing

Undoubtedly, the country will survive. Undoubtedly, this virus is going to massively disrupt things and kill a lot of people. What we're seeing so far is bad enough, and it's just the start.

From what I have seen, on TV coverage of China, their cities are far more modern and up to date than ours are, and they managed to build two huge hospitals in a matter of days to combat coronavirus. It would have taken us years.

So what are you expecting? Door to door forced entry and testing. Maybe masked men and women in white trench coats combing the grocery and malls of America?

WHAT? Be specific as to what you would like to see done?

If that happens, we're screwed. Our healthcare system is pretty bad already. If you toss 10 million people a year with a SARS condition into the mix, it will overwhelm us. We might see socialized medicine here a lot sooner than anyone thought possible.

While Trump was visiting tornado-ravaged Tennessee and the CDC today, CNN and Fox largely ignored him and dealt with the covid-19 outbreak, the primaries, and, later, Pence's press conference with his medical experts in toe to provide Americans with accurate information and the latest update.

Trump got a couple of minutes of air time and he blew that. He spent most of those minutes exaggerating the importance of the U.S. as compared to other countries. He made the astonishing statement that the U.S. is the only country being proactive in the search for covid-19 victims and its cure.

The incredible stupidity of this President is sometimes overwhelming. Of course, that is a huge lie. China, South Korea, Japan, Italy, and countless other nations are actively searching for victims of this virus and a cure.

Why did Trump make such an outrageous lie? Part of the answer is, that is what he does. Lying to benefit himself is a part of his DNA. Quite frankly, he can't help himself.

The other part of the answer is Trump's explanation of truthful hyperbole.

“The final key to the way I promote is bravado. I play to people’s fantasies. People may not always think big themselves, but they can still get very excited by those who do. That’s why a little hyperbole never hurts. People want to believe that something is the biggest and the greatest and the most spectacular. I call it truthful hyperbole. It’s an innocent form of exaggeration—and a very effective form of promotion.” “I Call It Truthful Hyperbole”: The Most Popular Quotes From Trump’s “

    Boy, that explains a lot.

that is one of the things causing people fear, they can't get tested, especially those that visit people or care for people that may be elderly, ect....

course, one could get tested today and catch it the next, testing could give people a false sense of security too, they could then tell people they got tested and it was just common cold, when really they now have it

Trump said anyone that wants a test could get one, but that is just not true.... nor should it be right now, we do not have enough tests for that - I would rephrase it to any doctor that feels a patient "needs" a test, can get a test

Has it occurred to you that what you see on TV is only what China wants the world to see? If I were ill the last place I'd want to be is in a hospital that was built in a few days, how safe is that? Your comment about how long that same building would take here was an obvious pot shot at America, something you left folks just can't resist. If you are so unhappy here why not move to China, I'm sure you'd be much happier there, oh and take Bernie with you.
