Former President Donald Trump hailed DirecTV returning Newsmax to its service just before his Saturday night campaign rally in Waco, Texas, which aired live on the network and service.

"Newsmax just got its 15 million people back, which is great," Trump told his rally crowd.

"They tried to destroy Newsmax. What they've done to OAN is horrible, horrible, but they tried to destroy Newsmax, and through a lot of different things, they got it back [on] DirecTV.

"They had very high ratings, and they took it off. That's something pretty unusual."…

…Trump gave a detailed exclusive interview Friday night with Schmitt, where he said "everything" has gone wrong under President Joe Biden…

Trump is exactly right! NewsMax is a great source for real news. It is good that they won their effort to stay on direct tv.

Just so I have the facts straight:
When contract renewal between Newsmax and Direct TV come up in January, Direct TV says, let's stay with present contract. Newsmax says NO you have to pay us a carriage fee. Direct TV says no. Newsmax goes the full victim route, and enlists government officials that threaten to punish Direct TV. And Newsmax is the victim here?

I m sorry. Isn't that your guys paranoid definition of the deep state?
Basically, you have government officials with an incredibly thinly veiled threat to a private company that it must change it's ways or suffer their wrath. A private company not allowed to make it's own business decisions due to pressure from elected officials. I thought you people hated that stuff?

Yes. Direct TV was paying big money for liberal stations with lower ratings than NewsMax. They insisted that they should carry MewsMax for free. That was not a reasonable position.

You seem upset that the elected GOP senators and house members were able to persuade AT&T to cause Direct TV to not cancel another conservative news channel.

"No one", from the evangelical right, "cares what the biased small minded bigots and haters at MBFC think of this source…"

That's very accurate, they are NOT a "news" station. 8)

Ah. OK. Just so that I can understand: now you are all for government coercing private businesses into doing something they don't want to?

It's not the government's job to tell a private business where to spend its money.

I’m all for them and your ideology in general getting a taste of your own medicine. We conservatives will no longer take or accept being canceled lying down. We will stand up and fight and if need be try to break those that persist in such. Twitter as it was has been taken down, More will follow if woke cancel culture of us persists. We are now fully enhgaged in the culture wars.

Directv only pays big money when stations are part of an all or nothing package with companies that own several channels and in exchange for that big money, Directv makes its money back selling the ads for those channels. Newsmax agreed to be on there for free in exchange for being able to do all their own ad sales. They were not making enough money to support themselves as nobody is willing to pay top dollar for ads on a low rated channel so Newsmax tried to extort some blackmail welfare from Direct.

NewsMax didn't have 15 million viewers.
The government shouldn't be involved in anything like that. At all. And I doubt Congress is what convinced them.

No. More like they cried for big brother government to get involved. Glad republicans have set a precedent for a larger central government.

What exactly did the Republicans do to force DirectTV to cut a deal? I don't recall any legislation, or proposed legislation, not the use of current legislation to bring pressure to bear. Maybe you could enlighten us?

They threatened endless investigations unless newsmax got what they wanted. Even the OP admits Washington interfered.

What does democracy have to do with Washington interfering in a private dispute? What happened to the idea of free market economics?

Why don't republicans whine about the hundreds of channels that are taken off every year?
