A few things I've noticed from Trump over his political career: 1) He couldn't recognize Giuliani when he was sitting directly in front of him. He looked around saying "Where's Rudy?" despite the guy being right there. 2) He can't remember where his father was born, on at least two occasions claiming that his father was born in Germany. 3) Famously, he recently claimed Biden might get us into WWII . . . which (checks notes) already happened. 4) When shown a picture of someone he says he never met, he could not tell the difference between her and his ex-wife. 5) He couldn't remember what country Orban ruled. 6) Even during his last campaign, he couldn't remember that Putin had already invaded Ukraine, claiming he would never do it. 7) He (also famously) thought he had defeated Obama in the last election, a man he's never run against. He (also famously) couldn't tell the difference between Pelosi and Haley. 9) Yeah, I'm going to bring back the "airports" thing again. Dude thought there were airports during the Revolutionary War. 10) Trump has confused Jeb Bush for his brother, claiming that Jeb Bush got us into the Middle East. 11) On several occasions, Trump has gotten the name of the city he was visiting wrong. This has, of course, been going on for years. So, here's my question: should it be ignored? Maybe. Everyone makes gaffes. Still, there are some pretty extreme examples. Note: all off-topic whataboutism "responses" will be regarded as failures to respond, will be ignored, and will be reported for removal. This thread is about Trump's symptoms of cognitive decline and what we should do about it. Nothing else. Please respect that.
Potentially. But that has less to do with his cognitive decline and more to do with the fact that he genuinely seems to not understand the concept that a reality exists outside of his feelings. And I hardly think that's new. For example, in the Trump University case, he couldn't understand that it would be a lie to say you had lunch with someone when you had not, in fact, had lunch with them. He raged about it, saying it wouldn't be a lie to say that even if it isn't true.
That can only happen if his lawyers advance that defense. Surely you understand this basic concept. I do agree that it could be a strong defense, if advanced. I agree that Trump can only be excused for his actions if he's an incompetent moron, and that could easily be the case. But there can be no dismissal unless he admits that or his lawyers advance that argument on his behalf.
The president isn't our "leader" anyway. At least we Conservatives don't want a "leader". I get how Leftists feel the need to have a leader to tell them what to do.
The irony of this post is almost so powerful that it could fold space and time and form a new big bang. Yes. Right wingers LOVE the idea of Trump as a "leader."
Again, if he wants to advance that argument, he can. He is still free to. There is no method to remove him from trial on this basis that does not involve him or his counsel using this claim. I'm sorry this perplexes you. But it is the truth.
That's definitely not true. You are assuming I've never actually met a right winger or a Trump supporter before. Because that's the only way someone would ever fall for a claim as monumentally dishonest as that. But I have met right wingers. I have met Trump supporters. No one in existence is actually dumb enough to think that they just want to be left alone. No one.
Only IF you can show an equal amount of cognitive decline but we are not talking Biden here - we are talking Trump and waiting for someone to explain away his very obvious cognitive decline
People forget where there father is born? And mistake their wife for someone else only to be corrected by a lawyer? Hardly.
As concrete as his appearances. At least when people defend Trump they're not trying to pretend they don't understand reality.
You said when people defend Trump they are not detached from reality. Now is forgetting where your dad is born normal, realistically speaking.
If that's what he ends up going with, I'm all for it. He can spend his prison term in a hospital wing.
Trump's narcissism combined with his cognitive decline(it's happening, though he's not as bad as Biden yet) will make him a pretty unique blend of just plain bad for the country.
It's obvious that both Biden and trump are suffering from old age and are not as sharp as they used to be. That said, the age issue then becomes irrelevant, and we need to pivot to character and experience to make a judgement. I would prefer a different set of candidates, but given what we are dealt, I prefer Biden's character, love of country and human decency over trump's vicious and puerile character and his malignant narcissism. I suspect most Americans who care about their country feel the same.
