Firstly the lawyer was not 'mine' he was an expert approached by journalists to comment. Secondly unless your an expert on UN law to his opinion on the subject is probably more reliable than yours. Thirdly what 'laws' are you talking about? Nowhere in the report does it reference any particular set of laws or jurisdiction so how do you know 'marriage laws are incorporated into the age of consent laws' as you claim.

 

Here's a thought -

40 US states have age of consent laws that are BELOW 18.

Yet YOU popped off the minute you heard "UN", didn't you.

How did you wonder over to commercial sex work and sex ed???

Are you aware that it important for quite young children to understand sex at least to the extent that they KNOW they are being assaulted and KNOW where that will lead??

How do you want children to learn enough to be aware that they need to defend themselves again incest? Rape? Prostitution?

It doesn't preclude that in the USA, either.

I don't believe US states missed that by accident, either. They wrote it into law, which is unlikely to be an accident.

 

This is not true in any general way.

Each state makes these laws as they will.

The laws on marriage age are not nearly as simple as echoing age of consent for sex. The age can depend on parental consent, for example.

Laws on consent for sex can depend on the comparative ages and other factors.

There are indications that legislatures might see a connection between minimum marriage age and minimum working age.

This actually something separate to the UN thing. It is from the International Planned Parenthood Federation. And that Fox News article doesn't claim that there is anything which talks about the supposed need to legalize 10 year old "commerical sex workers", which is what you claimed. However, it does say that certain things should be taught to kids under 10 which I think is inappropriate. So it's not great, but it's also not what you claimed. And the link from the Fox News article to the original source leads nowhere. I'm sure that the International Planned Parenthood Federation took it down after the reporting. I wonder why.
