Only goes to show that every state, I am sure the others have theirs, has a small percentage of nut jobs. Clue; none of the states are leaving, now those people that want to leave on their own are more than welcome to hit the door, just don't come back.

Texas has a decent percentage of nut jobs then :D. Now, 84,000 people in Texas have signed the petition. Which, honestly, comes at no surprise. I live near Houston Texas, and the more Urban areas do NOT support this however. Texas simply has a large rural population.

True, but they are still a very small percentage of the population, sad thing is our idiot Governor is one of them.

You're a Texan too? And, yes Rick Perry wanted to secede in his last term when Obama was elected. However, this will most likely lead nowhere.

Fun fact, Perry has already said he doesn't support the move to secede.

Not to mention there is now a petition to peaceably deport any citizen who signs a petition to secede.

I doesn't now, he did before. I like the suggestion, don't like being an American then leave, we do not need people here that want to tear the Nation apart. Problem is what Nation would take them.

A lot of folk have had it with the Feds...the issue will simmer until enough folk in a state begin to make real noise. In Texas that would be a number in the millions. Then state officials would respond and a political movement would be born. I also suspect successful secession would result in a lo of other states following suit. Look at the map...The few seriously commie states do not take up much territory...Let them tax and spend themselves into oblivion while the rest of us begin the hard work toward recover and freedom.

Yes, Perry did say that. He said it to save his own (*)(*)(*) While I do agree with the petition you mentioned, it has FAR less votes then the petition to secede.

    *Update*

    Source - abcnews.go.com

Citizens in all 50 states have now created and signed petitions to secede. More than several states have also now reached past the 25,000 signatures required for the white house to review the petitions.

Good point. Texas is well known for their special nutcases. Led by a former president and current governor.

Go Go Go! Last time I suggested you guys should just dissolve the USA if you've got such problems with the federal government conservative posters did seem to not take this suggestion well. Apparently some have changed their mind. Great! As long as Texan nutters don't get hold of any of the US's nukes I'm all for it. The times when the USA coulds still claim to be a force for good in the world are long over. These days hardly anybody would shed a tear if the US just dissapeared into a couple of unconnected meaningless and mostly harmless states.

A couple of points regarding these petitions. Not all the people voting for secession of a given state are actually reporting as living in that state and it seems that's all based on trust anyway. I (British, living in London) signed up to the Whitehouse site and got to the point where I could have "signed" the Texas petition. All you seem to need is an e-mail address and to know a valid zip code. I can't help wondering how many of the votes actually represent separate individual citizens of the given state.

See, you do need voter ID. ;-)

It's interesting only as a measure of extreme discontent (double meaning intended). Do that many people really believe that America has become so polarized and so fearful of the other sides agenda that secession is the only alternative?

Fear is not really the proper word. I would say they have no confidence in the federal government.

I very much doubt it. There will be all sorts of different reasons people would "sign" these petitions, some more serious than others. Even if we make the (unrealistic) assumptions that all the votes are legitimate and nobody is voting on more than one, the total number is still a tiny proportion of the 300+ million citizens of the USA. If there were a real groundswell of resentment, you'd see a whole load more than a couple of internet polls.

    Nothing will come of it.

In two months, it will be entirely forgotten.

I don't think it's lack of confidence either. I think enough people have listened to the propaganda spins about how the government is supposedly getting to big. They're going with the whole, "Government is the problem," bandwagon.

Did you see this petition? (tongue in cheek, obviously! Blue States are NOT as crazy as Red States!)
