It is hard to use a rational brain when you have an emotion response to something so ingrained inside your head. I guess that is why it is a logical fallacy: Appeal to Emotion All of us fall into this fallacy on an everyday basis.
If I hadn't seen firsthand just how stupid the higher-ups can be when it comes to sensitive issues like this, I would probably agree with you. But the higher-ups ALWAYS overcompensate by a million miles when things like this happen and it just makes life even more miserable for the snipers and grunts who are just trying to stay alive and do a good job.
Can you imagine how much they're hating life right now? And think of all the libo time that will be wasted on future classes about appropriate symbols and whatnot... It's going to be almost impossible for the Corps to retain the best and brightest if they keep up this PC nonsense and ridiculous moto-orthodoxy.
The punishment will be insanely disproportionate to the crime, that much I can assure you. When politicians and generals get embarrassed, grunts pay the price in sweat and blood.
I have found you are one of the few people that can have a rational discussion on this board. Even when we don't agree we can understand each others point of view.
I spent New Years eve in Iraq (through midnight) doing exactly that. The whole platoon got roused in the middle of the night because they found a can of air (which had been banned country wide because of a few idiots) someone was using for their laptop. It was a lot of fun, especially since I'd just gotten off a 24 hour OP. Oh yeah, we got to have a health and comfort too.
It's not just the resemblance to the SS bolts, the actual German SS had a similar flag with the white bolts against a blue background. I have no doubt this was an intentional design to mimic the German SS symbol. To say this is coincidental is not acceptable.
84 captured U.S. troops were mowed down in cold play by Waffen-SS during the Ardennes Offensive. This is a well documented war crime... Any U.S. personnel who associate themselves with white supremacist groups or groups which admire the Waffen-SS...have no business serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. These groups go completely against the core values of the military. With the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan winding down...it is time to clean house and rid the services of this element, and other gang infiltrators who have no business wearing the uniform of the U.S. Armed Forces.
"Stride with a proud disdain through the swamp of human inadmissibility." or as Joachim Peiper would have said "Schreite mit stolzer Geringschätzung durch den Pfuhl menschlicher Unzulässigkeit." . A quote which I believe accurately describes the Devil Dogs in question. People need to be able to look past the meanings of co-opted symbolism. Are the sig runes and charlie chaplins mustashe forever tainted because they were misappropriated by some lunatics? I don't see anyone getting upset about the shape use of army/marine helmets and rheinmettal cannons. Truth be told, the US put a few SS guys in public trials while simultaneously co-opting most of the rest of it.
You're the only one here not acting like a Marine. All the Marine grunts I know wouldn't spout off at the mouth and brag about how badass they are on an open forum to people they don't know. Called humility, or being a quiet professional. The few I have met that act like you...turned out to be posers. Take heed from IIB and Ethereal, they've been there and done that, and relax.
Same goes for you, by reading what you say and your reactions. It's nice to finally have that here. I love health and welfare...so much fun. Sucks about the can of air thing, I remember those and rip-its being worth their weight in gold. I think it was you I remember telling that I saw a full sized (think Monster) can of rip-its in a gas station in a no name town. Should of got some. It'd probably just taste like Afghanistan though haha.
