No need to add this qualifier, either its torture or it isnt. Im not surprised you find it hard to tell the difference though.

There should be no relationship whatsoever between Australia and America, except minimal trade. The two peoples can't get along under any circumstances. Tourism in each other's countries only leads to rude encounters on the street.

By all means engage me, but stay on topic. Actually, I think we agree that our peoples should avoid each other at all costs. That includes tourism. When I find Aussie tourists out here I give them shxt because they don't belong here.

...?... Yes because tourists are so similar to soldiers are they not?

I never said "our peoples should avoid each other at all costs", so we do not agree at all there. You are the one with a problem in this regard not me. You're sending troops to my country, not the other way around.

Australians soldiers, pilots, and sailors come here to train. They shouldn't be allowed to set foot in America. Australians who come here can expect to receive a rude welcome. A very rude welcome indeed.

There should be no military relationship between Australia and America. There should be no political relationship between the two countries. Trade should be limited. And diplomatic relations should be distant. One embassy and no consulates. No scientific exchanges, no cultural exchanges. No contact.

I suggest you go back a lot further if you want to find the foundation for Middle Eastern turmoil. The British and French did a hell of a lot of damage there.

I wish I could live in such a black and white world. In your mind AQ cutting off limbs and using blow torches is on par with the CIA's use of waterboarding. You're so frenzied and excited to point at the U.S. you allow countless REAL abuses in places like Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Iran, Egypt, Bahrain, etc. to go unmentioned.

That's silly. Australia and the U.S. have gotten along for a very long time. Its just the fringe of both countries spitting at each other in this thread.

    This.

There's no reason to judge how well people get along based on anything said on PoliticalForum. It's an inflammatory atmosphere.

I don't condone it of course. I continue think anyone does other than thouse who are not bound by law to do so. War crimes happen during every war that has ever been waged. The US is one of the few countries that actually prosecute their own soldiers for such crimes. How many countries can you say do the same thing?

Ordinary Australian welcome the presence of American servicemen on our soil. No doubt people like you would prefer someone with a Jihad mindset on our soil.

We fought side by side with the Americans through many conflicts and they are best guarantee of our long term freedom.

Very nice to read something positive from an Aussie, regarding anything American.

    Thank you. ;)

Really! Then obviously your knowledge of Australian history is pathetic or you would have been aware of the Kokoda Track and/or the Bombing of Darwin. What do you think the Japanese were doing on The Track, looking for 'comfort women'? And haven't you heard that :

CHIEF Minister Paul Henderson will consider making the newly declared Bombing of Darwin Day a public holiday; and

Prime Minister Julia Gillard is to declare February 19 a national day of commemoration. But the NT Government would have to make it a public holiday.'

I suggest you go back to history school!

I have been to America as a tourist on at least two ccassions and I have always found them friendly and obliging (except on the freeways, but then that applies in every country that I have visited!) Generally speaking, they are more courteous than most Aussie drivers (don't ask my opinion on Italian or Mexican drivers!).

I recollect when I went to San Francisco some years ago,and I was looking for a place to eat, and after asking for directions to a suitable restauarant, this American sailor took me and the family to a great Vietnamese restaurant. He recounted that he had visited Australia as a sailor on a number of occassions (Hobart from memory) and had many happy memories of his visits there, and was very keen to have the opportunity to return the favour. We had a great evening, together with him and his family.

I've always gotten along well with Australians. My sister's Finance is Australian and we get along well. I've met and spent time with alot of other aussies too. In my experience, Americans have more in common with Australians and Canadians than any other people. I think its a combination of their British roots and being physically large countries.

The US is one of the few countries that actually refuses to be part of the International Criminal Court because it knows its soldiers will be found guilty of Crimes Against Humanity.

Home made kangaroo courts don't really count. We have seen what US Military Justice means at Guantanamo. That is not something to be proud of.

Can you provide links to all the countries who have convicted their own soldiers of war crimes?

I think we could agree that working together as two countries that share many of the same values, we protect and defend those values for ourselves and our allies. No one wishes to invade china, north Korea or any other country unless they threaten thouse who share our common values.

Or because of its confliction with the U.S. constitution.... But you can pretend. Either way, you're silly because "Crimes Against Humanity" would be covered by the Hague and Geneva Conventions, which the U.S. is a signatory.

This is the real voice of Australia. These folks are totally hostile to Americans. It is in our best interest to avoid all Australians and not to do business with them. Zero relations.

The Australian left is too powerful for America and Australia to have a reliable relationship. More than anything the Australian left hates the American right. That being the case there can be no relationship.
