I don't really shop at wal mart, but more jobs in this country is a good thing.

Too bad 90% of them will be poverty wage jobs. Walmart views their employees, as nothing more than numbers.

Must be why the GOP loves the Wal-Mart model.

Nice jab, but in lefty-land, poverty is still the highest in the country. I am not defending the right, but the left is still worse based on actual results.

BTW, here in CA, Walmart was deemed "essential" during Covid while mom n pop shops selling the exact same items were shut down. The left is in their pocket as much as the right.

That, and the fact that the Walton family are huge GOP donors.

They viewe them as an expense, labor is an expense you know. If they cost more than the labor they provide then they are loss to the company. Wages are just part of that cost.

Walmart pretty much uses its stores as a distribution center for their web business, so it really isn't surprising. Bigger stores will not necessarily mean more goods. It very well could be just more little affiliated businesses around the margins like barber shops, subways, and the like.

Is it funny or amazing that labor always ends up being a cost that never is able to pull it's own weight.

Large-scale immigration is what fueled the rise of the Wal-Mart model.

Humungous corporate retailers like Wal-Mart wouldn't have been able to staff all their stores or drive their employees with brutal efficiency if it were not for the presence of so many desperate workers in the labor force. That's what drove out all those smaller and family owned retail stores.
(The 1999 Free Trade Agreement bringing in cheap Chinese goods into the American marketplace was also part of the reason for the rise of Wal-Mart)

A thread with more of my thoughts about the precise economics of that:
Lower labor costs will lead to dominance of corporations over small businesses (Mar 24, 2023 )

A bit of trivia that may be helpful: The company changed its legal name from Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. to Walmart Inc. in 2018.

A job is better than no job at all right? We can deal with wages soon.
