It's happening now and democrats usually lead the way in changing the rules like Harry Reid did for the Senate on judges.
Yeah, we don need not stinkin evidence! They wanted to impeach Trump for dissing the NFL. Talk about petty politics.
I wouldn't go that far... I think the goal was oversight.... if that led to impeachment, that was on the actions of Trump, and he didn't disappoint...
One of Obama's mentors was a man who regrets how little terrorism he conducted to protest the Vietnam war.. One of Hillary Clinton's mentors was Saul Alinski who is most famous for shoving his leftist ideals down peoples throats whether they wanted them or not. Scumbags one and all.
No...it must be treason, bribery and/or a high crime and misdemeanor, have the support of a simple majority of the House and a 2/3rds vote of the Senate for removal from office on conviction.
Oh that is true for the vast majority of the 41, and the reason why they won. If the Republicans had made even a token showing of holding Trump accountable, perhaps they would not have lost by such a record setting margin.
It doesn't matter if they commit an impeachable offense. All the president has to do is try to set foreign policy and they House can vote that the offense is impeachable, whether it is or not, such as what is going on now. The House could have taken the subpoenas to court but they chose not to. Nobody forced them to skip a step. Nobody is obstructing anything. Nobody is obstructing them to not go to court to enforce the subpoena. Explainer: How powerful are Congress subpoenas, contempt citations? https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trump-congress-subpoena-explainer-idUSKCN1S81FP
We have no bribery, high crime or misdemeanor. We have "Abuse of Power" and "Obstruction of Congress". Those two charges are so subjective in definition that everything is impeachable now. The Judiciary Committee's report even said that Trump should be removed from office because he might do something bad in the future. Are we going to start impeaching presidents out of fear that maybe they will do something wrong at some point during their term? This is ridiculous. Every president could subjectively be accused of "abusing power".
Correction: The House Clerk did just say "High Crimes and Misdemeanors"...so they are trying to throw the two ambiguous charges under that umbrella.
Post the section, but I believe the report indicates he SAID he would do something most consider bad in the future... We've all seen those videos...
This impeachment process is a sham and an attempt at a political coup. Whether you support Trump or not should be irrelevant. This attempt to remove a sitting President is an attempt to usurp the will of the American people. This sets a dangerous precedent and will paralyze the Democratic process. This is not the people speaking it is a sham.
Today is the Day Democrats vote to Impeach themselves on November 3rd 2020. Trump will be Re-elected in a Landslide and appoint more Conservative Supreme Court Justices and the Democrats will lose the House. MAGA 2020, Trumps leadership will benefit America for Decades after he leaves office in 2025, because he'll prevent Communist Democrats from destroying our Country's economy that is absolutely on fire right now.
Abuse of power and obstruction of Congress are high crimes and misdemeanors. And, a major reason for impeachment is to prevent similar behavior in the future. It's a political process, punishable solely by removal from office. Once removed, a President may or may not be indictable in the criminal justice system.
Alinsky was one of Obama's mentors, too... ...and Clinton and Obama brought their brand of Chicago sewer politics to Washington and the Democratic party fully and eagerly embraced it. The only thing they care about is power - everything else is just a means to that one end.
