Great!!. Defend our shores from whom. From what kind of attack? How far out should that defense be tasked? What are the weapons systems required to do so? You would rather fight here than there? Which shores would you like to be involved in battle so they could be defended?

Anyone. Anything. As far as needed to defend our shores. Whatever is required for that mission only. No fighting will take place on land. All our shores. This is simple and we could do it with 50 percent of current forces

Clearly you are not qualified to do anything but express an uneducated opinion concerning force levels.

What about Rotterdam? A huge chunk of the shipping that is unloaded in the U.S. comes through Rotterdam IIRC (and the rest through a handful of other overseas ports).

You expressed an opinion seemingly drawn from thin air with no reasoning to back it. And yes you were clear. And dead wrong about a lot of it.

Cut CBG's in half, create a new BRAC to close overseas bases with a goal of 50 percent, eliminate the F 35. Clear enough?

I agree with some of it. But to cut the entire budget and force levels in half? Shaking head. We do need to bring a lot of troops home from overseas and shutter a lot of those bases. I want to base them here to boost our economy at home. I think the CBG level is about right but we do not need to have them in every ocean on earth all the time.

I also agree that the F35 program needs to be shut down. We could restart the F22 line and buy F15 Silent Eagles right now..ready to fly and fight and as good or better than anything out there. Buy the Marines new and improved FA 18's and forget those boondoggle f35's.

There are a lot of ways we can improve the military without spending more than we do now, if we do things wisely and get our priorities in order.

How many more years are our pilots supposed to fly warplanes designed when The Rockford Files, Happy Days, and Charlie's Angels were some of the most popular television shows on the air?

The F 22 is a dinosaur now? Lol

I disagree. Change the mission to homeland defense only and cut it in half

How do you know that? Without any possible idea of who would be potential adversaries, what weapons systems would need to be deployed, what the size and capability of the attackers is, you can't possibly know what the form or number of forces necessary would be. No fighting on land? And you know this, how? As I said, 50% cut is pretty definitive. That would imply you have knowledge of how many ships are involved, how many air wings of what kinds of aircraft, what kind of missile defense (both ground to air and air to air) would be required. What happens if an over the north pole invasion of airlifters carrying paratroops lands in North Dakota at the same time forces are distracted and being deployed to defend Florida and threats to Southern California?

What if the tanks, artillery and airlifters needed to deploy our ground troops have been eliminated in your scenarios of 50% cuts, since they would never ever be needed in your new defense structure? You don't really know much about the military, do you?

Who do you imagine would be undertaking this invasion?

We have barely more than 150 F-22s IIRC. We needed four times that many at least to replace a substantial number of the older legacy F-15s (which were designed when Charlie's Angels was a big hit).

Though to be fair the F-22 design is now a quarter of a century old. It's basic design was finalized when "Seinfeld" was the new cutting edge television.

If we listen to people like you we can never spend too much on defense. The paranoia will continue to drive spending thru the roof. It is overkill......literally

To suggest that the US could not defend itself with a 50 percent cut shows a lack of insight into our capabilities. Every other country does it for a fraction of what we spend. It should be the department of defense......not offense

Could be that canada only has one country who might invade
And they are guessing we will not
And also guessing that their defense budget will not alter the probability of invasion
