Making weapons is a very profitable business in the US
just as long as they can find someone to buy them and
the US govt is a very good customer.

You just get the public riled up over something, even
if it doesn't make any sense, and then go to war.
We've started loads of unnecessary wars, and you
can tell they weren't necessary because it didn't
make any difference after we lost them.

The global chain will be disrupted either way. I don’t see your point in war over the singular reason of chips

Yes, global supply will be disrupted either way but the point he was trying to make was that we must not allow China to take over Taiwan factories that make over 60% world's chips and over 90% of world's advanced chips. I'm sure you're aware that these are used in our fighter jets, missiles, phones, computers, etc and we will never allow China to have the technological and superior advantage. And yes, they're finishing a factory in US later this year but not even going to make a dent in production. These factories are very expensive and one of the main reasons they started outsourcing them decades ago.

China has done some dumb **** since Xi. But they aren't going to invade Taiwan. :wtf:

Xi's a **** up but he IS capable of learning from others mistakes. Putin's failed invasion of Ukraine isn't lost on him, or any other dictator or wana-be dictator of the world.

Well ... except tRaitor tRump. <- he's dumber than Putin.

Simple. China needs the chips as much as the rest of the global economy does.
If China tries to steal them, they will not even be able to buy them.
Which acts as a disincentive to try to steal them.

    Perhaps an analogy would help:

Say you desperately needed a particular type of orange that only grew on your neighbor's tree.
You currently are free to buy the oranges at market price.
You often threaten to steal your neighbors property which would give you control of the tree, but, it has been made perfectly clear to you, that if you attack and it looks like you are going to prevail, that tree is going to be blown to pieces with no part any bigger than a matchstick.

Wars require the approval of Congress. Vote if you don't like the way things are going.

Biden's endless spending in Ukraine (for unknown reasons) is fueling the defense industry these days. Let him know you disapprove with your vote in November.

Do you think tRaitor tRump as a non-governmental individual would keep his nose out of it if I let him know I disprove of his meddling in U.S. foreign affairs in November or anytime?

China isn't going to invade Taiwan, not after Putin's success in Ukraine.

XI has done some dumb **** during his reign, but he's not that dumb.

Good question. Unlike Ukraine, there are actually US interests involved in Taiwan, but if we go to war with a nuclear power, we're rolling the dice on what happens.

OK that's your prediction, that China isn't going to invade Taiwan.

    Here's the thing! China want's Taiwan's semi-conductor plants.

U.S. (thanks President Biden) AND Taiwan's semi-conductor industry are investing Hundreds of Billions of Dollars in semi-conductor production here in the U.S. For two reasons, shorter supply chains and National Security. IF China invades Taiwan the semi-conductor industry will be destroyed on the way out and China will get nothing. China builds low tech semi-conductors now but it will take them at least a decade to get to the level Taiwan is today. By that time that technology will be outdated and the present parody will still exist.

IF China starts a war with Taiwan they will get nothing AND be shut out of the importation loop of high-tech semi-conductors. For that reason and the fact that China's military technology is based on failed Russian designs ...

China is NOT going to invade Taiwan.

True, it's apparent that it's becoming a losing battle for the U.S. to continue to prop up Taiwan. But also true that China will BE the big loser if they invade.

Taiwan should far better prepared to defend against an invasion than Ukraine. Their governments have been focused on defense since 10/25/45.
Ukraine has proved that with the right weapons systems and enough ammunition successful aggressive war and occupation against a determined prepared defense is no longer possible.

    American troops are not needed.

Nation states do stupid things. See Russia in Ukraine.

I doubt that China could ever fully recover from the kind of damage Taiwan could inflict on its military industrial complex, or the destruction of Taiwan.
Even an eventual victory and occupation (very unlikely) would be an epic loss for China and Chinese civilization.

Which begs the question is the Chinese ruling political class as stupid as their Russian "partners"?

    Confucius may have said:

“Once Confucius was walking on the mountains and he came across a woman weeping by a grave. He asked the woman what her sorrow was, and she replied, We are a family of hunters. My father was eaten by a tiger. My husband was bitten by a tiger and died. And now my only son!

Why don't you move down and live in the valley? Why do you continue to live up here? asked Confucius. And the woman replied, But sir, there are no tax collectors here!
Confucius added to his disciples, You see, a bad government is more to be feared than tigers.” Lin Yutang (emphasis mine)

I'm not sure you want to use Ukraine an example of that considering where the front lines are. Taiwan's situation is different since they are an island. I think if I were China my first move would be to establish a blockade around the island, a move they can pull off now since they've beefed up their navy. Although it's an aggressive act, is it aggressive enough to engage the US?

It would be an aggressive act of war that would justify Taiwan attacking China and sinking its navy.
Ukraine has shown that warships have become just as vulnerable as tanks, and it is harder to retrieve them for repair or scrap from the bottom of the ocean.
