We like to can and if meat goes on sale again we plan to can about 50 pints of beef and chicken. We canned 25 lb.s of organic carrots several weeks ago and 15 pounds of dried beans last year which was about 60 quarts . We can to save money and know how our food is prepared and where it comes from if possible.
Remember your food groups.... Omega oils, fats, all of that. Mackerel for example. Also, brown rice for riboflavin, or canned eggs? IDK. Powered egg? Mushroom I believe has folic acids which can help any women during pregnancy - and that's good for survival.
Your right we do need those essentials also. I hope to get to where we can just grow what we need. And keep hens happy for eggs will supply lots of vitamins and minerals.
I saw chefs during a cooking competition having to use chicken in a can and I think two of them almost vomited when they opened it. I think I'll pass on that one.
Check out on you tube. The one I saw was doing it with Jars - you know those old fashioned ones. First she boiled the bottles then she dried them in the over - to make sure they were totally disinfected, then she filled them with her beans and rice which she believed would last 20 years.
Not stupid at all .I'd ask this same question about 15 years ago. I just washed and put these up 20 minutes ago. These are in quart jars and will last us a year. We cook them under 10lb.s pressure for 30 minutes. Canned these beans a couple days ago. We do canning on front porch, cook these 90 minutes under 10 lb.s pressure. We have a really nice canner 'All American Canner' that cans 14 qt.s at a time. Saved up for it a couple years, well worth every dime.
