But US was not the one who started the war with Japan. It, maybe, would've started one - but Japan declared war in USA and striked first, to stop them before that happens.

Was it effective? It was not.

The bottom line is, that declaring war does not stops violence. It is a violence in it's own nature, and SO FAR the North Korea did not launched any sort of attack on USA, South Korea, or Japan, though TENSIONS EXIST. But it's not a valid cause for murdering people.

No, its defence against violence. Declaring war can be an act of defense.

I hope you are correct, AS.

And I hope that if the transition comes, it comes without the carnage some dictators bring when the are falling.

One way or another, we have go to neutralize his nuclear capability. Not sure how to do it,. Gotta hope there are people who do!

so during WWII japan attack peral harbor is act of defense , consider during that time we did a lot sanction against them. The problem with NK, least from their perspective, is they are afraid of US, we never sign peace treaty with them after Korean war. after witness Libya and Iraq, they decide the only way to make sure their survival is has strategic deterrence. They are right in a sense, consider they did worst thing to their citizen compare to Syria/Iraq under saddam, but we never bomb NK due to tremendous cost associate with it. They belief if cost is too high it will force US back to negotiating table, and nuke is best way to blackmail S.korea, japan, and US.

A North Korean submarine sank a South Korean ship 7 years ago.

Also, North Korea has placed landmines in the DMZ, injuring South Korean soldiers.

When you're talking about competing imperialist nations... it's hard to define what is offense/defense. There is conflict simply because there are limited resources on the planet and both sides want them all.

    It's definitely a chicken-and-egg type situation.

At this point, the only way to get his nukes are to take them from him. That means one heck of a war. I say we wait this whole thing out and ignore him.

Or assassinate him. Or place such strict sanctions, with the help of China, that their country collapses.

The only way that we (Trump) would be willing to wait is if North Korea was never observed testing a weapon again.

Perhaps North Korea will wait to see if Trump loses the 2020 election. But I doubt they're that patient.

The same compassion shown by the Russians towards Baltics, Ukraine, and any other region in former SU, who dreamed of independence.

    1) A regretful incident, but I want to know more of it, how and why that happened.
    2) What soldiers were doing in demilitarized zone?

And they got it, just as Russia did. Twenty five years passed with them pretty much being sovereign. Ukraine's government pretty much ruined integrity of it's country, but generally - ex-soviet states exist independent. Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia joined NATO, but - it's their own business, what to do with their freedom. If they wanted to give it away and from one Union to transit to other - they have right for it. The NATO itself I disapprove greatly, it reminds me too much of early USSR with it's agressive politics and tendency to smear differences between participants, but if I am wrong - it's fine and I have nothing to worry about. If I am right - it will collapse when people will start worrying more about their own good, than 'building a shiny democratic future'.

Besides, we are speaking about YOU and your opinion towards states fighting for independence. The only two times when MY people did that was in 1991 and in XV century, and one went relatively bloodless and calm, while other is too distant now, for people to relate to it. But I thought citizes of USA are pretty much proud and aware of their war for independence and keep this memory fresh, even celebrate it yearly.

His #1 health issue is an impending American bullet to his brain.

I certainly don't think war will happen, mainly because I don't think the Chinese are going to let North Korea start another war along its southern frontier.

Personally, I think Trump's gesture is intended to influence the thinking of the leadership in Beijing, not the lunatics in Pyongyang. I have a hard time believing that the Chinese appreciate how Kim Jong-Un has attracted more U.S. and allied naval forces near their shores, and it appears that Trump's move is already producing some results:

Japanese warships to join US fleet near North Korea as tensions rise
    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/apr/12/japanese-warships-join-us-fleet-north-korea

If China wants to project power beyond its shores - and it does - the last thing it wants to see is the mightiest navy on the planet sailing into the waters it seeks to dominate.

And what's China gonna do to stop North Korea? I don't think the Americans, and much more of the world, would be satisfied with anything less than removal of Kim Jong-Un and removal of all nuclear capabilities.
