The worst ride I ever been on was a crossing from cancun to Cozumel in 6'-8' on a 36' motorsailer, but that was in saltwater. Fresh water is denser than salt, so the waves get much steeper and closer together. I was land sick for three hours after I got off that boat.

No they are, I been on both Superior and Michigan and also quite a bit of the Gulf of Mexico. In fresh water the waves start breaking at about a foot and a half high. A foot and a half sea in saltwater is nothing because the waves are further apart.

Some people don't know that the Great Lakes have currents and sometimes very strong ones. That and the surface water temp off Milwaukee is only about 52 degrees today and it's been a warm summer so far. Not a safe place to be, if you end up in the water you won't last five minutes. In the Gulf of Mexico you can stop the boat and swim all day.

Going out on the Superior is kind of like going to the core of the city, It is worse than being in the middle of nowhere, and you might get mugged by Mother Nature instead of a handsome man.
