Could turn out just like you said. But, I highly doubt human nature jives with utopian scenarios.

I don't think there's any way to objectively measure such a thing. Most people wouldn't do what I do for what I get paid to do it, and I wouldn't do what most people do for what they get paid to do it. There's a lot more compensation in a job than just money- comfort, safety, flexibility, we all value these things differently, thus one persons $100/hr dream job can be another persons $100/hr nightmare.

I don't necessarily agree with that assessment. Automation will save the employer beaucoup bucks in employment expense and it shows up for work every day.

No my assessment is simply when you can manage to automate all the lower wage jobs the lower class who eats fast food will have to be replaced by robots because the previous lower class consumers will no longer be able to afford even the fast food poison they used to live on.

That will be a win for them. Not having to eat the poison.
But it will happen. Every industry eventually automates as much as possible.

Farming has very much automation compared to 100 yrs ago.

Since they are all made in China and all cost a few bucks to make probably $20 would be fair . The rest is just fashion advertising. From my experience not much difference in functionality and durability between a $50 buck pair of shoes and a $300 dollar pair of shoes. Same with a KIA versus a Mercedes except in that case a KIA is a longer lasting more reliable car. And don't even get me started on the Rolex scam.

Well not necessarily since if the Republicans are ruling the world they will be responsible for their own failures and deserve to starve.

Every pair of leather shoes is made in China? Have you ever heard of a shoe manufacturer called Alden?

How do you determine which price is fair?

The price that is fair is what people will pay. Next stupid question.

Does that also apply to what people will pay for workers?

First, you need a base line for what can be gained by simply investing money. I think 4% is fair, so if you have a million dollars making 4%, then that's 40k a year you can expect as a return, simply by doing absolutely nothing.

So right away, your 100 an hour employee is going to have to take a pay cut of $4 an hour, and only if that business is as sure as a guaranteed government contract. Make it a McDonald's franchise, and it's going to be a lot more because restaurants have a pretty high failure rate, and it requires work to get it going. Let's make it a cool 20%. So now your worker worth 100 an hour is only going to be getting 80 an hour. Subtract the usual federal, state, and municipal taxes and that goes down to 60%, so your 100 an hour worker is now worth 60.

Then we have to factor in supply and demand. Since your average franchise doesn't require skilled labor, and the illegals keep flooding the country, what you do is advertise 10 an hour and if you get enough people applying for the job, then great!!!!

so much for your stupid 100 an hour.

Sure unless of course like Trump you hire illegals or import cheap labor. But if you are working up to an anti union rant we are done here. The Republicans did kill the unions and middle class income has been essentially stagnant for decades.

Trump is actually trying to keep the illegals out, so that's not something you can pull. As for unions, they don't work very well if they don't offer value. Sorry, but your unions are garbage and offer only garbage to employers.

Even if a fast food restaurant brings in $100/hr/employee, it doesn't mean they get to keep all of it. The business owner has to provide the restaurant, the supplies, the maintenance, the utilities, the advertising, the lawsuits, the insurance, the taxes, and handle the payroll. That $100/hr/employee just got a lot smaller, especially when they are taking the risk of losing everything for everybody if the business fails.

When i owned the machine shop, I had to bid to get work from various companies. I learned fast that they know a lot about costs to do those jobs. I was told by one company manage that he has computer records on every cost to them. And he did not ask for a bid,. but made it clear that if i went over his calculated costs, he would not send work to my business. Most of the companies simply would stop using the shop if they believed they paid too much.

A business school approach is in order.

Cost to get X to the consumer has variables.

The $100 figure seems extreme to me. But even so, for purposes of the problem., no problem with that number. But that inflated number will force we who solve these problems to also inflate our own numbers.

Sure he is. How funny he didn't do a damn thing when the Republicans had the House and the Senate.

And your opinion of unions is always welcome. I had about six hundred union workers in my employ and found them to be good employees and hard workers. Of course we had disputes with the unions and very hard contract negotiations but basically I found that if management treated them fair they treated management fair. And my unions were AfL/CIO and Teamsters just for your information.

The unions also did a good job of killing themselves.
As with most human run things, union bosses got greedy and stopped caring about the workers. And it was impossible to fire a union worker, no matter how incompetent a worker is.

That of course is total crap. You can't fire a union worker on a whim but if you follow the proceedures agreed in the negotiated contract eliminating the bad apples isn't all that hard.

Anyone that says you cannot fire a union employee is just parroting anti-union propaganda or is just too lazy to do their job. In fact in my experience the union is often more aware of their bad apples than management and perfectly happy to kiss the rotten apples bye bye if the agreed upon proceedures are followed.

    Not a load of crap.
I was never in a union, but I've known many who were and I heard what they said.

I also, interviewed for a job and during the interview, I was told if there was a fire, I could not grab a fire extinguisher, but had to go find the people who were in the group of union that was responsible for fighting fires. I was flabbergasted.

But I do believe it was the unions that built the middle class. They just got to big for their britches, in many cases.

My hearsay is experience. And they're not preconceived either.
I've know people, my dad for example, that worked at a place in a union. They did vote out the union at one point. The company is still in business today, a non union shop. Has been for 30+ years since the union was voted out.

So your outrage doesn't mean a whole lot to me.
