The obvious answer is prejudice against them (I wager people who don't read the OP will answer that as some sort of gotcha). But then why not put race in there? No, these people all get boxed together as if they are somehow united. Are they? Should we presume them to be?

Why do gay men, lesbian women, Bisexual people, Trans people, etc, all get forced into the same box. Did anybody ask gay people if they want to be joined to trans people in this way? It seems to me that gay men and lesbian women have quite a lot of differences, and that neither have all that much in common with trans people.

All suffer prejudice because of their sexuality.

We are not forced into one box. I am a gay man. I am not being confused with some Lesbian or someone who is trans. Its a choice based on a very long shared history We have had plenty of issues that has divided this alliance over the decades, I can recite them. and there are tensions now.
I will explain it ONE TIME. Either you want to learn or you don't.
Our shared history starts with the nature of the experience as we learn that we are not only isolated from the majority of the population, we were isolated often from our own family and friends, who literally have no clue what being gay, or lesbian or bisexual or trans is about. Its more about your relationship with the people closest to you, than the authority figures in the Mayors office. In these cases, its not always the big bad majority that teaches you to feel shame, isolation and marginalized. Its your own Mom, your own Dad and community. They were asian, caucasion, and blacks that did that rejecting. They were jewish, catholic, muslim and non theists that did that shunning. If we were no longer welcome in our town, church and family, we tended to congregate in larger cities where we might find a replacement support system. Word gets out that San Francisco, Boston, New York etc have such a system. We collected into specific streets, neighborhoods and businesses that catered to this niche community of outcasts. We marched together, drink together, sat in cells together, were beaten together, and stood up together to fight back.

We know who has had our backs for the last 50 years, and who has not had our backs. That is who I intend to stand beside when there is trouble. That is the glue, and that is an alliance I will never walk away from.

This is what the left do.
When blacks are oppressed they throw in latinos and call it "black and brown" (more powerful that way)
When hispanics do something they don't like they are "white supremacists" (libs love to play around with the races of hispanic people to suit there needs)
As far as this RIDICULOUS LBGT+++HIJKLMNOP2S crap, it works better for their narrative.
Nobody cares about gay couples anymore so they need to create NEW hate and with this EVIL tactic, they can apply anything that happens to the T to the L as well as the G and the Bs.
LOGIC and COMMON sense tells me that a bisexual woman that likes to make out with another woman at a bar every once in a while after a few drinks is the same as a homosexual male or female.
Since these hate mongers have to build time machines now to find gay bashing they have to invent the new words. I probably know more homosexual people than anyone in here and the majority of them HATE that label and hate that THEY have to be associated with everything all the other letters of the alphabet do.
Progress and lack of hate also means lack of POWER for the left.

What unites then is called clinical depression.

I'm sure that's an offensive thing for a homosexual to hear, but the reality is that despite increased acceptance in society homosexuals are still more likely to suffer depression and suicide than heterosexuals.

Whoever linked the homosexuals in with the transvestites and transsexuals as a way to promote sexual perversion just did not have their head screwed on straight. Im not convinced that the Lesbians and the gays have something particularly in common with the other perversions which are in fact delusions. The BQT are doing the L and G a great disservice IMO. The next letter they will want to add will be "P" for kid touchers.

Liberation. Discrimination. Civil Rights—equal treatment under the law.

I believe the initial movements in States date back to roughly 1870. The ignorance of them is astonishing to me still although being in the arts community most of my life likely heightened my awareness.

Eventually it will just be every letter of the alphabet and every number. We can just call it "35" for simplicity

Easy now, Fatback is trans-sexual herself. She is the "T" in the acronym.

Living in Los Angeles, I have many LGBT+ friends. Most of the gay men I know look and act like any other man, while some make it obvious when you say "Hi" to them. I took my young kids to gay weddings long before it was legally recognized.

My question is how you feel about being painted with a broad stroke as if being gay automatically means you support trans-females competing with bio-females or giving children drugs to prepare them for surgery. I have asked this question to all of my LGBT+ friends/family and all of them strongly oppose it.

Tried to head this off at the pass, but if course the immediate responses were as predicted.

It isn't an answer the question though. Lots of people suffer prejudice, hate, etc. They don't get blended into one, under the same acronym and flag.

I do find it very odd that trans, and especially asexual people get linked to gay men and women under the same categorizarion. Gay/Bisexual men and asexual men are usually very different, at least as different as straight men are from them.

And then you have "two spirits", etc, which have nothing whatsoever to do with any of this.

Similarly, I was recently speaking with a good friend of mine's brother who is a 50-year-old flamboyantly gay man from Palm Springs.

His position is that he vehemently opposes being connected to the trans community. He feels as if homosexuals have had a long and arduous struggle for acceptance as being normal people, and now that they have finally achieved that status, they are being lumped in with these delusional freaks (his words), and that it is setting homosexuals back decades from the progress they have made. He feels no kinship whatsoever with the trans community.
