That's not the issue here. Jesus was supposedly crucified on Friday and take down from the cross BEFORE Friday at sunset. .. before the beginning of Passover.

So.. maybe the Lord's Supper or Last Supper was NOT a Passover Seder.

Jesus was a big fan of fish, honey, bread, and wine. I'm not sure if there are any
passages that say that he ate other foods. However, there are verses that say that he ate those foods.

The crucifixion day depends on which account you read. In Matthew, Mark, and Luke Jesus was crucified on Friday. In John he was crucified on Wednesday. You can do your own calculations but you have to figure out what the Day of Preparation was, what day the sabbath fell on, and so forth.

Depending on how you calculate things you can get a Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday crucifixion day.

True.. the accounts are contradictory.. Point is that they went to Pontius Pilot and asked if they could break his legs because the body had to be taken down BEFORE Passover Eve.

Now if I can just find chapter and verse.

Now it was the day of Preparation, and the next day was to be a special Sabbath.

Because the Jews did not want the bodies (of Jesus and the thieves) left on the crosses during the Sabbath, they asked Pilate to have the legs broken and the bodies taken down. John 19.31

    John 19:31

The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

    Commentary:

    The preparation - John 19:14.

That the bodies ... - The law required that the bodies of those who were hung should not remain suspended during the night. See Deuteronomy 21:22-23. That law was made when the punishment by crucifixion was unknown, and when those who were suspended would almost immediately expire. In the punishment by crucifixion, life was lengthened out for four, five, or eight days. The Jews therefore requested that their death might be hastened, and that the land might not be polluted by their bodies remaining suspended on the Sabbath day.

Was an high day - It was:

    1. The Sabbath.

    2. It was the day on which the paschal feast properly commenced.

It was called a high day because that year the feast of the Passover commenced on the Sabbath. Greek: "Great day."

Don't forget that the calendar was changed in 1582. Turn on the supercomputer and toss in all of the variables and different word meanings. Then flip a coin and you've got the correct answer.

That still does not explain why John is the only gospel that says the passover took place on the sabbath. All other gospels who mention the last supper say it was on friday.

MATTHEW 26:17 Now on the first day of the Feast of the Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying to him, "Where do you want us to prepare for you to eat the Passover?" 18 And he said, "Go into the city to a certain man, and say to him, 'The Teacher says, "My time is at hand; I will keep the Passover at your house with my disciples."' 19 So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them; and they prepared the Passover [hetoimasan to pascha]. 20 When evening had come, he sat down with the twelve. 21 Now as they were eating, he said, "Assuredly, I say to you, one of you will betray me."

MARK 14:12 Now on the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they killed the Passover lamb, his disciples said to him, "Where do you want us to go and prepare, that you may eat the Passover?" 13 And he sent out two of his disciples and said to them, "Go into the city, and a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him. 14 Wherever he goes in, say to the master of the house, 'The Teacher says, "Where is the guest room in which I may eat the Passover with my disciples?"' 15 Then he will show you a large upper room, furnished and prepared; there make ready for us." 16 So his disciples went out, and came into the city, and found it just as he had said to them; and they prepared the Passover [hetoimasan to pascha]. 17 In the evening he came with the twelve. 18 Now as they sat and ate, Jesus said, "Assuredly, I say to you, one of you who eats with me will betray me."

LUKE 22:7 Then came the Day of Unleavened Bread, when the Passover must be killed. 8 And he sent Peter and John, saying, "Go and prepare the Passover for us, that we may eat." 9 So they said to him, "Where do you want us to prepare?" 10 And he said to them, "Behold, when you have entered the city, a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him into the house which he enters. 11 Then you shall say to the master of the house, 'The Teacher says to you, "Where is the guest room where I may eat the Passover with My disciples?"' 12 Then he will show you a large, furnished upper room; there make ready." 13 So they went and found it just as he had said to them, and they prepared the Passover [hetoimasan to pascha]. 14 When the hour had come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him. 15 Then he said to them, "With fervent desire I have desired [epithumia epethumesa] to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; 16 for I say to you, I will no longer eat of it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God."

According to Matthew, Mark, and Luke, the last supper was held after sunset on thursday, which was the start of what we would call friday, since days started at sunset for them, and not midnight like they do for us. John is the ONLY apostle who wrote a gospel that claimed that the passover started at sunset on friday, after the last supper.

    It certainly is confusing.

Anchor point #1: Jesus died at 3pm and was buried on the preparation day (the day before the Sabbath) before sunset, which would begin the Sabbath day.

Anchor point #2: The seventh-day Saturday Sabbath was the day after the crucifixion, and we know this because the women rested that day according to the fourth commandment of God. Therefore, the crucifixion had to have occurred on a Friday.

Well, in their sense of time, sunset on thursday would have been considered friday as we know it. So, it's possible that the last supper took place on thursay evening, which would have still been considered friday. This would make sense. The deciples were asking on thursday afternoon where Jesus would like to have the seder for passover which would start that night.

My understanding is Sedar supper is on Thursday, Jesus was crucified at 9AM Friday, died at 3PM, and was put in the new tomb before sunset.

As a Catholic, that's why we can fulfil the Sunday obligation to attend Church on Saturday night Mass! It comes from that traditional view of time.
