What's the difference between Bush during Hurricane Katrina, and Biden during the Maui wildfires?

As someone who was not following US politics at all back in 2005, I'm curious what the difference is here. Due to some political commentary that I have heard since the wildfires, I am now aware that Bush had that 'flyover' photo of him staring out the window two days after Katrina made landfall in Louisiana, and that he was slammed for that. But I am unaware of him being guilty any equivalent to Biden's "no comment" remark while on vacation, and his 'kitchen fire' story, over a week after the wildfires started. Yet it seems that the same media which slammed Bush is not slamming Biden to the same extent. Your thoughts please.

GWB was criticized for saying Brownie was "doing a heck of a job", when in reality he botched the recovery effort and was appointed as the head of FEMA based on political connections, while having ZERO experience in disaster management. In fact, he was the commissioner for a horse association before getting the FEMA job. And then, there were GWB's mom's famous words:

"And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway,", "so this is working very well for them."

This came off as pretty tone deaf and elitist.

Now, the difference to the criticism of Biden's visit to Maui is that it is mainly just made up by the RW, for example pretending that Biden fell asleep in a meeting with victims when he actually didn't.

Bush is a Republican and Biden is a Democrat. The media is going to cover for Biden.

The whole mission in Maui is a clusterfuck and it's being covered up by the media. FEMA has even started censoring information coming from the disaster zone.

People were critical of Bidens Maui response before he went there. You should look into that cause I feel like when it comes to disaster response, substance is a little more important than words, which you seem to be overly obsessed with to the complete tunnel vision of all else.

There is really no difference when both Presidents visited the disaster area to assess the damage. Its part of their job as President. For Katrina, the main difference is that the local, state, and federal governments used politics and did not try to cooperate with each other. We had those damn people stuck in the New Orleans Dome in Downtown New Orleans stuck there for three days with all sides pointing the finger at someone else. The levees that first appeared to hold back the water broke some 24 to 48 hours later. both the state and the federal government did not prepare for this catastrophe while the mayor of New Orleans was warning about this five days prior to when Katrina hit. And when the media found out that little fact, the media began to slam the Bush Administration for not listening to the mayor at all. Furthermore, Congress acted swiftly for Hurricane Katrina aid, and added a lot of assistance and tax incentives, which a lot of people were later convicted of with fraud, among other things. The Maui fires, in contrast, appear to be mistakes and misjudgments by the State emergency staff. In my opinion, the head of the state emergency board and its lieutenants should all be fired. Why in the hell was the water not diverted in an effort to contain the fire in the beginning? And why in the hell were the emergency alarm systems broken in Maui that did not warn residents? These two questions should be answered by an independent investigation.

Oh, so not George Bush then?

Oh, so he did NOT say "no comment" and he did NOT tell the kitchen fire story? I'll be surprised if you reply. You never do when your claims are placed under scrutiny! :roflol:

Depends on what media you are referring to. But my post argued that the media has criticized both presidents for different reasons.

Who can forget this tone deaf classic from Babs?

WASHINGTON, Sept. 6 - As President Bush battled criticism over the response to Hurricane Katrina, his mother declared it a success for evacuees who "were underprivileged anyway," saying on Monday that many of the poor people she had seen while touring a Houston relocation site were faring better than before the storm hit.

"What I'm hearing, which is sort of scary, is they all want to stay in Texas," Barbara Bush said in an interview on Monday with the radio program "Marketplace." "Everyone is so overwhelmed by the hospitality."

"And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway," she said, "so this is working very well for them."

Naw he wasn't asleep he was just gathering wool and a bit lost just like usual. Hell he's 80 something years old and clearly suffering from dementia What would you expect? Oh yeah that people who actually cared about anything would have put this corrupt demented old geezer out to pasture 12 years while he was still competent enough to enjoy his retirement.
