I guess you've realized that despite the promises, you're not going to get that from a Democratic President.

President Obama tried to close Gitmo but was blocked from doing so by Congress. The President does not have the power to just close it on his own. He needs to work with Congress in order to do it.

Despite the name calling from the Right, President Obama has not been overly Liberal since he came into office. THis president has maintained many of the Bush Admnistration's policies, Inserted long-standing conservative ideas into his plans, and been a pretty moderate President.

President Obama was blocked from closing Gitmo by a Democratic Congress. I just wanted to make sure that's clear.

But he wasn't forced into signing those indefinite detention clauses in the NDAA, he requested them. He also requested the extension and signed the Patriot Act. In fact, his administration lobbied Congress over the Patriot Act.

Both of those items are acknowledged. Congress, Democrat or Republican, is still filled with scared little children afraid of their own shadows. THey do not want Gitmo closed because they do not want some of these terroists held there in our Max security prisons in the States.

A Patriot act created by a Republican Administration, but I do agree: He should have let the Patriot act expire, and rejected the NDAA, but then the GOP would have talked about how he did not want to support our military.

Wow, I've read some of your posts and you didn't really strike me as a rigid ideologue, but I suppose I'll have to reconsider that. Think about what you're saying. It's the Republicans fault that the Obama administration requested and fought for the renewal of the Patriot Act and for the power to indefinitely detain Americans?

Whew... there is a lot of cognitive dissonance going on here.

Nope, he signed the bill so he has to take responsibility for it.

I was going to read this thread, but I'm too busy counting the welfare money Obama sent me this week.

Wrong.Republicans aren't spiteful. It's not in their DNA like it is a
    Democrat.Two wholly different political animals.
One cares and wants to fix things for the better, the other just
peacock around proud like Madame Pelosi, usurping her authority
and castigating others whenever she should be held accountable.
Democrats spend the majority of their time being sneaky and
crafting ways to blame their opposition. It's a policial fact.
The Budget and our Debt are the proof.

Take off the blinders. Republicans have contributed to our mess just as much as Democratic Presidents have. Please do not let your political bias influence your opinion much. What would you call the Republicans announcing that their main goal over the next four years is to make President Obama a one term president? They said it before he was even able to get anything done in office. They said it because they were upset he won and they lost the election. Their lack of co-operation is based entirely on spite.
