Couldn’t care less about the 1950’s. Didn’t comment at all. Probably won’t. It’s an open forum and I respond to what I want to, not what others think I should respond to.

Roaring isn’t necessarily indicative of a positive connotation. A roaring lion or a roaring flash flood for example.

Anyway, it’s not well known what was going on in the roaring ‘20’s so I thought I’d let ya’ll in on a bit of actual history. Remember the roaring ‘20’s led to the Great Depression. Like a roaring lion can lead to being eaten or a roaring river to drowning and devastation. I just thought it might be interesting to share a little history very few know about.

You are still welcome to your opinion that the 20’s were great because some folks refer to them as “roaring”. I’ll continue to base my analysis of that period on more meaningful evidence. I know I’m odd in that respect that I don’t hold unsubstantiated opinions. Doesn’t make me popular on PF but it seems to be working out pretty well IRL. :). I’ve found unsubstantiated opinions aren’t particularly valuable (and can be harmful) whereas analysis based on economic facts can profoundly benefit a person.

Depends upon who you ask. Lot of people blame the baby boomers (I'm at the tail end. Sorta like being the last locus to the field after its been eaten to the ground). They (we) essentially voted that we get all the money. So young people know we've borrowed ourselves into oblivion and they're getting the bill. Like playing Monopoly stating 20 turns after everyone else. Who wouldn't want to just kick the board over in that circumstance?

We've also fought how many stupid wars and not won? What were the consequences to the USA to losing? Why are we doing this?

Also, in the 1960s, the radicals assured everyone that they would be taking over the institutions and our kids would be learning from them. Our schools are less interested than teaching the young how to be strong, free, productive people (i.e. until 1970 you could graduate from any NYC school with a license to practice a trade) to being properly indoctrinated. Shut up, obey, get in the pods, eat the bugs.

Still others blame Feminism. Telling 1/2 of society they no longer have a roll to play outside of being an exploited, disposable utility. Not a good way to have those members believe they are part of something that matters. ITMT: women have never been more miserable before. There are arguments to why this is: feminism itself? That women were always this miserable but only now are voicing it?

Some of it is mass media. It is a great tool for sedating the masses. Except now, no one has a monopoly on it. You don't have the jingoism that existed when my dad was joining the Marines. Instead, we can watch "All Quiet on the Western Front" on Netflix and know the opposite of what they were telling us. War is not fun, glamorous, glorious. It is hell.

I could make a list the current day warts to counter yours. I don't have the motivation to do that. Life was better then I think for everyone.

The great depression didn't happen because it followed the 20's. It happened because of market investments on margin.

Jim Crow laws would not be anyone’s version of “better,” unless you’re white.

I've already told you but apparently you totally ignored them.

    Polybius and Josephus.

Instead of worrying about Jim Crow in the 1950's, I recommend you start worrying about the Marxist movement taking your country away from you. Since obviously you didn't live through the 50's I don't expect you to understand what a better life is.

Market investments on margin occurred at higher than average rates because of the perception of a “roaring” economy. People saw others making big money in markets and wanted a piece of the action when they couldn’t afford to take the associated risk.

The decisions made during the 20’s created the conditions necessary for the crash of ‘29 etc.

No you could not. It's only your opinion. And your opinion is agreed upon by everyone.

Never seen you type those words before. And never heard of the Polybius.

So I doubt you told me or I missed that post.

I will take Britannica over those 2.
Do you have links to anything they've written?

Yes, you missed that post and no , brittanica doesn't trump Josephus or Polybius lmao.

Your insistence on this makes me believe we are literally going nowhere in this discussion. Those who know, know.

    Yes, yes they do.
Perhaps they even reference those 2?

It is going no where. I never intended to go anywhere with it.
I'll stick with Britannica until I've seen evidence to the contrary.

I am not even sure it's that important if Ancient Egypt had slaves. I was mostly refuting some biblical recount of that false claim.

And, back in those days, slave had a different meaning than today.
Slave didn't necessarily mean ownership of a person.
    Which I believe Britannica covered.

Worrying about being attacked by the Klan or anti-minority group, not being able to vote safely, possibly getting drafted to go fight in Korea, being beaten for being homosexual, having extra obstacles just to go to school despite desegregation and potentially being labeled a communist for no reason are not my ideas of a “better life,” no normal person would. Of course, you’re most likely a bitter old white dude so most of those weren’t problems for you. Or several people in this thread, for that matter.

Of course I could. The Marxists are taking over the judicial system and that will literally destroy America. There I did one. There are many many more. I stated an opinion and everyone agrees with it you say. Except you.

And why question the testimonies of Amber Heard, her tears are worth more than silly stuff like evidence, its silly to ask a witness when something happened or if she is sure it happened or stuff like that.

Lucky you, but you probably helped make your own "luck."

Social Security? I don't bother. Medicare? I don't use it. Lucky me. I even have Canadian citizenship, so I can live outside the U.S. if the place is overrun by illegals. But I still care about people who depend on government. Lots of workers are slowly sinking out of the middle class as they lose the ability to provide for themselves and their family.

California was the place to be then and still is for the right people. You have to be in the right business flow, be it medical, pharma, construction, etc. state level booms. The reason we have ~ 31% is the democrats took over when ballot harvesting was made legal, and the state stopped investing in infrastructure and updating the curriculum in education.
Most of California's growth in immigrants, and the parents don't speak English, creating a serious disconnect between them and their new world.

Certainly way better in the 80s and 90s than today. By a LONG shot.

Yep, it’s not looking good. But it’s going to have to get worse before it gets better.

The best way to show we care is by helping and encouraging self sufficiency as much as possible. It’s better to “fall out” to a smaller house and a few chickens than borrow more to stay in the middle class lifestyle. A country that implodes from immigration (if that were to happen) will be very hard for those who are mostly dependent.

If we are truly concerned about hard times coming it’s time to start judging wealth not by house square footage, make and model of car, and length of the boat, but by how long one can survive if the shelves were bare and the power went off.

What you say is true. Nevertheless, I do not think Trump will re create an economy where most men can support a wife who does not work, several children, and a house in the suburbs.

    Nah. You can't.
    Opinions mean nothing.
You use marxists, indicating you are not aware of the topic.
