The numbers fleeing oppression and poverty have increased dramatically, and even under the previous administration, despite all the hyperbolic rhetoric, iIllegal immigration increased. Apprehensions at the Southwest border had risen by 14.7% in 2020 compared with 2016.

Yes, Congress must stop avoiding comprehensive reform of its 1952 legislation.

Not at all. I don't respect asylum requirements or humanitarian considerations. I'm ok with asylum as long as nobody shows up at the border without asylum already approved. We are not responsible for the lifestyle of those who enter illegally or even those who enter legally. Sanctuary is senseless and simply promotes more illegal immigration. We certainly don't owe it to anybody. If you want to feed, house and transport illegal immigrants then form a private sector organization to fund it.

We need to get tougher. No doubt about that.

Congress isn't the source of the problem. Open borders are the source and, I repeat, Congress doesn't appear to have the power to fix that. No red state is corrupt enough to remove Biden from ballots. He won't be on the ballots because the DNC won't allow it. They don't want to guarantee a loss in the election.

 

The borders are, obviously, not "open." More funds are being allocated, more agents deployed, and more undocumented families interdicted than ever before. The hemisphere-wide challenge requires more funding and immigration reform legislation from Congress.
