Both Japan and China have population problems. Japan is worried about an earthquake hitting Tokyo, because it doesn't know where to move it's millions of people. I read that it asked Russia to return the islands it has because of that.

As for China, I think it's eyeing Siberia, and who wouldn't, after all it only has eight million people...if you can believe it. As the Chinese get richer, they will take those beautiful Russian girls away from their drunken husbands and 'voila', problem solved.

I believe advances in technologies could decrease the perceived need for more space.

A federal UN could make this a moot point.

I believe acquiring and possessing more perfect knowledge of structures will enable us to place human capable habitation, anywhere on Earth.

The population growth rate of the PRC is slower now than it was in decades past and with so many Chinese living near their Eastern coastline on the Pacific, I do not see why they cannot just develop their central interior and western frontiers further to accommodate more citizens. I reckon they are being aggressive in territorial disputes because they want expanded economic exclusion zones and want to exude an image of being a prominent world power with a sphere of regional influence, both economically and militarily - not because they want to conquer any neighboring countries for their resources or additional space for their population.

They can import food if that becomes a problem, no? If I properly recall, there are vast tracts of arable land in the U.S., Russia, and Brazil that have yet to be used for growing produce.

I believe we are under-utilizing or miss-allocating current green space. We could also reduce our foot print by building on the ocean floor.

Russia is a short stroll and empty near China. I imagine the oil and mineral rich wastelands ajoining Chinese land would be annexed,

Too many nations are paranoid about China for them to have much hope of expansionism. I doubt they could even achieve "anschluss" with Taiwan in any way that wasn't completely democratic without uniting a very large and powerful alliance of nations against them.
