White House flags return to full staff less than 48 hours after McCain's death

I do admire someone who is cool under pressure and goes out in style!

Let me help you: The Flag Code gives minimum requirements for setting the flag to half-staff. The President can extend those minimums by signed proclamation and usually does with the tradition being half-staff until the funeral; usually a few days to two weeks. Trump has signed such proclamations for many others while in office including the mass shooting victims at Vegas, the Gazette newspaper and Sante Fe HS. Trump refused to sign the proclamation for McCain (we can debate why later) but was finally convinced to do so by WH CoS John Kelly and WH Communications Director Bill Shine. Meanwhile, the Republican Congress passed a resolution to allow John McCain to lie in state at the Rotunda, an honor only awarded to 33 people and 12 Senators in our entire history.
