Good post and true too, sound location by triangulation. A German officer, Captain Lowenstein, patented a method in 1913. Others were onto it at about the same time. Todays methods ae much more sophisticated and computerized so that instant response is the goal military forces work towards. Modern militaries like that of Israel are very good at this sort of thing and counter-battery fire is often in the air before the Palestinian missile has hit the ground much to the dismay of the terrorists.

The only way of knowing where a missile came from is if you spot the flash at launch. A "firecracker" does not make a suitable noise to register on any sound triangulation equipment. Plus the fact that the receivers must be set up based on prior knowledge of the rough position of any launch site and carefully calibrated. Sound triangulation can only work if the target is used several times.

Once a missile of the type sent from Gaza is in the air it is not possible to determine where it was fired from unless the flame at launch is spotted. And then even if the very inexact location is determined after spotting the launch flame the perpetrators will have long gone and random houses will be blown up

 

You obvious don't know much about how Iron Dome works and nothing about artillery counter-battery firing. My guess you try to cover your ignorance of the subject by attempting to engage reader's emotions by reference to "random houses" where supporters of HAMAS live.

How do you know that the houses that are blown up were occupied by Hamas supporters. As for the Iron dome, I was a systems designer of electronic counter measures systems specifically anti-radar homing heads, laser guided missiles and missile approach warners, so yes, I do know details of how the Iron Dome is supposed to work. It doesn't work by the way, it works just as badly as the Patriot missile system worked during the gulf war where the Patriot missile system is much easier to design due to the larger target missiles and still failed.
