So Michael Phelps can swim fast. Is this important? NO. I don't watch the Olympics because I think that when you glorify a person for what they do is just sad. Shows how insecure you are. So Phelps can swim fast, is this going to save your life? feed the homeless or save the African Starving children that die everyday? or the violence in Iraq? No. One man can swim fast..Ok, lets hope it does something for him in real life, like swimming away from a Shark or Killer Whale. Why else would you need to swin that fast?
I don't care about the Olympics because our stupid channel covering it spends too much time on the swimming and nothing else.
I find the Olympics totally boring...in a world which is in an abject mess, the Olympics is just one big junket for the athletes who can run a bit or swim a bit and all their officials, coaches etc... AND I cant stand the way footballers are idolised just cos they can kick a football, or run with it under their arm.... Yawn yawn....Id prefer to watch grass grow........or back winners at the horses which I do with constant regularity............
Well, swimming was important to Phelps..... Like Tiger Woods w/golf, Phelps who's a champion swimmer will have a healthy income for the rest of his life w/the sponsors who'll be after him b/c he's a champion.... that's his reward for having worked hard all of his life to excel at swimming...... so what's your problem w/this?
there are those that don't like sports and there are those that like sports. You are entitled to your opinion just like everybody else is.
In my earlier years (65) I got tired of watching the iron curtain athletes being given points by the communist judges. Then....the final straw for me was when it became allowed for professional paid athletes to partake in the games. I believe this strikes down the very spirit of the Olympics.....the play should be that of regular world citizen athletes doing their thing by way of their gift....through personal dedication to practice......not from athletes paid millions to play for a business (franchise owner). Olympics mean nothing to me now.
