Having met several different varities of U.S. Special Forces in country, even having the chance to work with a couple (nothing too high speed) I think what impressed me most was their intelligence. 50 mile force marches, 10 mile swims, 20 mile runs etc. aren't what make these guys so bad ass. These guys are extremely fit and tough, but elite athletes will beat them everytime. They aren't marathoners, MMA fighers, middle line backers, and competition shooters all in one. What makes them trully deadly is their ability to think and execute under pressure, watch each other's back, accept defeat at no cost, and meticulously plan and prepare for combat. Modern combat requires brazen common sense, meticulous attention to detail, inner confidence, and humility. These guys have all of that in abundance. These intangible characteristics are what make them so good, and so trying to quantify the quality of SF unit, especially with their diverse mission set, is silly.
There is more to UK special forces than the SAS, btw: http://www.eliteukforces.info/ @ the OP, UK without a doubt. In a dangerous situation, that is the force I would trust. After them, possibly Israel, they're very determined and seem to do the work before moving. I might go for Australia next, they do not lack courage or ability. Russia is very busy and experienced. France. US have weight of numbers and equipment, Delta have a good reputation but then most special forces have decent equipment, the people using the equipment matter more, if they have been known to blink under pressure or be unpredictable...you can have a gun but can you stand?
If I may say so, that is a predictably Jewish/American response. I agree with Herkdriver and Mushroom - there is no such animal as the best elite force in the world. It depends upon the mission, the topography, and the training of each respective unit. The British and Australian SAS have a fantastic reputation for getting the job done with minimal fuss and casualties, but then so do the US Navy SEALs. The Kommando Spezialkräfte, the forces under the Commandement des Opérations Spéciales, and the Spetsnaz, are not forces I would care to come up against either.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maersk_Alabama_hijacking I would say this hostage looks pretty alive and happy to be so. Saved by the US Navy SEALS.
It's a low blow by him. He's referring to the night time raid by a SEAL team where the hostage was killed by grenade fragments. He clearly doesn't understand how difficult rescue operations in the middle of the night against dozens of Taliban fighters are.
Oh, I am aware of that. I was just throwing back something that shows how that is not always how things turn out. Of course, things always look better when your only experience is in playing video games.
I say the russians. If you look at the news from the past year, the israelis/americans even british all been caught in so called secret operations. The finger pointed at them when they should have kept it quiet but the russians have remained secrative. Also mention the chinese, very rarely are they in the news with spying. So god knows what they are getting up to.
If we are talking successful operations against the Taliban then the Australian SAS are on top. They also went covertly undetected into Iraq pre invasion and pinpointed military targets for the US.
I might agree with you, if it were not for the fact that this thread is about 'elite forces' not the intelligence services. The international news is not exactly full of MI5s or MI6s activities either.
Elite forces are supposed to be secrative with highly trained agents getting up to no good and never being found out and certanily not making it on prime time news but from this topic the inner details of their missions are known from mossad to the seals, etc... It is forces with russia and china hardly hear about are the ones who are good at it.
They just spy on people i think, they have no reasons for special forces or black ops right now, General Grass
Not at all. In common English, elite forces are any forces which are very good at what they do. For example, my dad was an officer in the Coldstream Guards. That is one of the most elite regiments in the British armed forces, but they do not operate in absolute secrecy. The topic title makes no mention of secret forces or intelligence agencies.
This is why forums like this are so much fun, Posters like you who seem to know the inner workings of the chinese and russian spy/elite forces. btw, change your nick, you are not very smart.
Lets debate shall we, the Russians have not been in a major war for awhile they're intelligence forces are probably focusing on spying on their massive neighbor to the south. Notice how i said intelligence forces, and spying, then the Chinese have a big goal to meet with, the modernization of their military. They don't spend much time on black ops, unless its with their hackers, they do not want a war right now. What do you think general grass ass?
You should read up on current events. I think the 7,000 Russian and Chechen forces who have been killed in the conflict in Chechyna would disagree with you....as would the 16,000 dead militatants and 25,000 dead civilains.
