I think 50,000 dead people in a war that has seen EXTENSIVE use of Spetnatz is a great example.

It was an invasion followed by a long counter-insurgency.

No, they didnt. This is not the stuff Americans can do very well anyway. Not that I agree with our forces being mercenaries for the Americans but they did a good job and potentially saved thousands of coalition casualties in Iraq and as they also now are in Afghanistan.

Sorry, you don't know what your talking about.

The first coalition forces into Iraq were the CIA Special Acitivites Division SAD in July 2002. SAD was followed on by the 10th Special Forces Group, who helped build resisitance forces in North Iraq and along with SAD, called in air strikes. This SAD/ODA/Peshmirga coalition led to the destruction of 6 Iraqi Army divisions. In addition, a BN from 5th SFG deployed to Western Iraq. In addition, 1st SFOD-D and DevGru are believed to have operated in Iraq weeks and months before the invasion. That's literally hundreds of U.S. Special Forces troops on the ground weeks and months before the invasion calling in airstrikes and causing disruption.

In comparison, Australia's SASR deployed 1 reinforced squadron in Western Iraq that was under a U.S. joint command that also consisted of the 5th SFG.

The idea that Australian Special Forces led the way and called in air strikes for U.S. forces is just wrong. They served honorably and were certainly competent, but they were only a tiny fraction of coalition SF operations in the invasion (the vast majority of which were by U.S. SF)

That's an aboslutely silly notion. SAD, 1st SFOD-D, and a handful of ODA teams, with man power from the Northern Alliance, and air power, took down the entire Taliban government. U.S. SF forces are unrivaled in calling in percision airstrikes because the U.S. has air and reconnissance assets that no other country on earth possesses. Its not a knock on any other SF forces, but this is one area that the U.S. excels at.

it is The only post here which deserves attention. A true general has spoken.
The US elite forces... look to be good only against elderly women and children. The US training looks to be more about tolerating pederasty in a bent over position. If what we know about the circus with osama bin laden - it is an example how it has been done - all of it- through the butt.

A half dozen from the group Alpha would make OBL disappear from his ‘palace’ and appear in the US CIA place; and nobody there would know how he did disappear and nobody would know where he was made appear.

A half dozen from the group Alpha would make OBL dissapear

...on December 27, 1979 … Soviet special forces stormed the Tajbeg Palace in Afghanistan and killed President Hafizullah Amin and his 200 personal guards, including CIA agents.

Taking part in the Palace itself were 24 men from «Гром» ("Thunder") unit of Alpha Group , GRU, and 30 operators from another special KGB group: «Зенит» ("Zenith").
In the operation Alpha Group lost 2 men, Zenith group lost 3....

I'm not too sure you are right about Mossad.

Mossad let be known what they want to be known and it's probably a camouflage anyway.

The US government lets it be known anything that will convince the US public that their special forces are better than all the others, whether they are or not. They have a very gullible audience and every member of special forces is an extra dupa super double trooper one million star and bar hero with knobs on.

The SAS operate in secret, except when some half crazy British looney socialist politician makes it public to sell his crappy book.

Septsnaz has shown their human side in Chechyna, Afghanistan, and within Russia itself during hostage situations.

I am surprised no one has commented about the Seal raid in Somalia.

What I am slightly surprised about is the use of Seal Team 6 rather than some of the other forces which I thought were more focused on hostage rescue.

I did think it was a clear message that no place is completely safe from American Special forces.

I would imagine this was done for 2 reasons.

For one, the Seals have operated in that area recently, so probably have some contacts on the ground. Another is that the mission probably took off from ships offshore, which would have made a lot shorter trip then those of similar Army units, which would have had a longer trip to and from the site.
