Watch and learn. The coming economic catastrophe will accelerate the downfall into tyranny. The real harm this virus did was in feeding the power lust of bureaucrats and tyrants. The truth about this virus 1) The young don’t die 2) Kids are rare transmitters, and never die. 3) The real death rate(Excluding the elderly and chronically sick) is closer to .2 %. or 2 out of every 1000, not the 3 out of every hundred that’s is being recklessly tossed around. 4) Isolating the elderly and the chronically ill is the most rational solution with the least amount of damage done to the economy. 5) This to will pass, but damage will be exponential to hysteria the politicians milk the masses for. Liberty will fall, tyranny will rise, not because of virus, but because of the surrender of reason to unfounded fears. In a true Capitalist society, this would have been a minor speed bump on the road of achievement and prosperity; the altruists and the humanitarians are turning it into a economic wasteland with bankrupt businesses and individuals blanketing the landscape.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I Agree with the BoldFace Tyranny beyond the Imagination of George Orwell Tyranny like we can't Imagine
Sure. When you tried to compare a million to the statue of liberty, weren't you changing the unit of measurement and comparing it to something you were more familiar with?
Wow. PF sure has a high percentage of infectious disease experts!!! Why are you guys here? Shouldn't you be putting your expertise to good use?
Please provide specifics about the claimed "lack of action." IMHO, there is too much "action" and the government "action" is more dangerous than the virus.
I am not going to search for it for you. You do the searches. It has been shown on our national tv's several times. I get your view but that is not how it is. Here is a post I made before describing the situation Post 125 When the WHO raised their expected death toll from 2% to 3.4% the reasons they gave was that too many countries were deciding to go for the very smallest possible number to say that that would be the number of deaths. That was 1%. They said they believed that this was causing them not to be proactive enough (proactive means being able to guess what is going to happen from looking at other countries and preparing for it before it happens., Hence reducing the effect.) WHO said that due to inaction they now expected the death toll to be higher that 2% and raised it to 3.4. You can find details if you read what I say above. Had you and other countries acted like China did or possibly more accurate acted like the countries near china who were the first to get the virus acted, we could have managed to sort the situation with minimal interuption into our everyday life and minimal death - to the extent we know as this is still a novel virus and we do not yet know the full consequenses of it. Given that the UK has more or less given up on testing, though some people argue it is due to lack of tests rather than design in a similar way to the people of the US were told masks would not help because they were scarce -anyway given that the UK has given up on looking for contacts and testing and isolating them, the same man from WHO has been on yesterday and today making clear that what is needed id testing, testing, testing.
Its called conceptualization, reducing the many concretes to a single mental unit by omitting the varying measurements and using abstracted essentials, light year.
Lack of action? FK, I just lost over $4000 a month over a virus that leaves kids alone, young adults undamaged, and is only truly deadly to the old and sickened. Isolate them, not shut down an economy and bankrupt me. Mulitple that 10 million times--now that's a scary number. The economic damage will be catastrophic, and the recovery may be unobtainable.
A quick search failed to turn up a WHO statement that referenced a lack of action from the US that would not apply to other countries. I understand that you do not want to do my internet searching for me (as you say) but since you referenced a WHO statement the onus is on you to provide a link to verify the statement.
not according to many health experts. we need not only stop the elective but also practicing social distancing.
Based on common sense, it would seem that there is no way to shut down businesses and schools for an indefinite period of time without catastrophic damage. Most decisions in life are based on a risk analysis/risk management process. Whereas, now we are proceeding based on apparent hysteria. I question the legal authority of government to shut down businesses yet they are doing it proving constitutional authority is an illusion. The bottom line is that without government "action" there is nothing that prevents an individual from making a decision to self isolate, wash their hands every 15 minutes, or whatever.
The government attack on encryption I believe started during the Clinton administration with their key escrow initiative (Clipper Chip/skipjack algorythm) that seemed to be defeated by the creation of the EFF. Then there is always the possibility the key escrow mandate was dropped due to the establishment of "back doors" in major software products. From the current attacks on encryption, I surmise that perhaps the "back door" approach is not working at this point in time. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clipper_chip https://www.eff.org/
Seeing some local judges here saying it is illegal to close them. End of the day the govt will get it's way, and people will applaud it. The over reaction continues as the group think grows. Always better to over react than under react but there has to be a rational limit on that theory. Right now it is just "close it" as fast as you can, rational thought is out the window at his point.
The hunt for the Boston bomber, specifically people being forced by police to run out of their homes with hands in the air, and the reckless police gunfire (they claimed to have exchanged gunfire with an unarmed man) was the point at which I understood the average American neither knows nor cares what their Constitutional rights are. If people are initially not inclined to applaud unconstitutional actions of the government, a low information sort of cover story will generally suffice to bring them around. We are living in a police state albeit a kinder and gentler sort of of police state than that found in most of the world.
Yes, they do, by loved ones, and in general, as humans. However, as one of the elderly, if the maintenance of my life requires the destruction of many of my neighbors' financial foundations, I'll self-isolate and accept the risk if the need arises to go out in public. If infected, of course, isolate and quarantine...the infected, not the healthy. Reason, not blind hysteria.
A police-state is an apt description of what is taking place. The New York National Guard is out "cleaning" New Rochelle? Ok. With guns loaded?
Within reason, and there is nothing reasonable about closing schools for a disease that leaves school-children unharmed and minimally infected; nothing reasonable about stopping air travel when an airplane's air filter system captures the virus; nothing reasonable about closing entertainment and restaurant venues when they have not seen mass infections, as well as beaches, amusement parks, and on, and on, and on. Especially, when all that needed to be done was to isolate and quarantine the elderly and the weakened. Nothing justifies destroying an economy, just as nothing justifies a parent destroying their wealth by spending their last penny to give their child one more day. Let the dead die, and build a better future. If you're young and healthy, the risk to you is minuscule, quit fretting; if your old or ill, the risk is moderate, so take precautions, but don't lock up your neighbor.
What this virus flattening and lockdown is really about: WHO emphasises that everyone should protect themselves from COVID-19 in order to protect others. Not because it's in your own interest to that which would give you the greatest chance of remaining healthy, but out of duty to the welfare of others. That's why the lockdowns--to impress this on the memories of the masses; to reinforce the idea that the welfare of the community supersedes your self-interest. The result. Watch the world's economies collapse, and watch the tyrants, despots, and demagogues gorge themselves on power.
Might be his best shot at keeping the white house after the postmortem of his handling of this crisis is released.
