Yes !!! I always forget the rest of it and simply say 8mm, unless it is 7.62x39, 7.62x54R and the plethora of other calibers.

Well you saw how I forgot the short AR / M-16 magazine was 20 rounds, not 15, so many magazines, I get confused sometimes.

    a 57mm caliber would be a bit more than 2.2 inches. since a 5.56MM is .223

Since the topic is the Kurtz vs. the mauser there is no need to specify 7.92 as both aew 7.92. If you noticed I did that in my first post but posting from my phone I'm not going to take the time.

    You are tilting at windmills.

No shot the topic of conversation is Kurtz vs. Mauser so the issue is length not caliber.

No it is not, you ask for 57 mm ammo at a gun store, and you will get strange looks,
If you ask for 8 mm Mauser, of so many grains bullet weight, and you will get what you ask for.

It is like asking for .30 caliber ammo, and again, there is lots of .30 caliber stuff.

The K designation in a Mauser 98K is the shorter carbine Mauser as opposed to the longer rifle.

.380 at one time was 9mm kurtz or short 9mm

I'm not asking for ammo at a (*)(*)(*)(*)ing gun store. And if the clerk asks if I want 57mm or 33mm after I ask for 7.92 is he being inaccurate by leaving out the 7.92. I was having a conversation about the German Kurtz vs. Mauser until the loser of the argument tried to argue some off on an unrelated wall side track about caliber because since I'm posting from my phone I'm not going to write 7.92X ?? every (*)(*)(*)(*)ing time.

Then if you did not, you were correct.

I sure was wrong when I claimed the short M-16 magazine was a 15 round capacity, it was 20, it was no big deal anyhow.

There is way too much gun stuff to remember to not get it wrong once in a while.

To Answer the original posters question:

Why are Assault Weapons so Deadly ?

They are not Assault Weapons, they are regular Semiautomatic Firearms in the hands of Criminals.

They are not more deadly than any other pump shotgun or lever action rifle.

Don't give a Baboons blue backside about the semantics - why are they so deadly?

Whatever it is that is causing the mass shootings in America - why are there so many and why are there so many large numbers of people killed?

    - - - Updated - - -

I am not touching this statement with a barge pole

    tempting though...........

Your liberal panic attack is misplaced. The "so many large numbers of people killed" are shot with handguns. Don't you even know that?
Far, far more people are murdered by demented psychopaths using handguns, followed by knives, and then blunt instruments such as baseball bats.

Even these numbers are dwarfed by those killed by heart attacks. Ban spoons! They keep shoving food into people's mouths, causing heart attacks!
    Tablespoons are the worst!

As a fixed magazine of 10 rounds or less the SKS rifle used in the Dallas shooting is perfectly legal in Austrailia and probably one of the more common rifles owned in your home country.

I'm willing to bet you didn't know that.

    Don't care

Only care about the humanitarian issue of mass shootings

    And what drives them

Tell me - why does America have so many more mass shootings than anywhere else outside of active war zones??

There are scenes of atrocities and war crimes that have fewer victims - and certainly fewer child victims

But the excuses given are pathetic "More people die of old age"

    Phwaaaaa!

Listen to yourselves - if this was really a valid excuse you would remove all legislation related to safe driving, safe workplaces, safe food preparation.................

Meanwhile one country virtually stopped it's mass shooting incidents

The only in Sandyhook was causes by a person with mental illness.
