    Very nice quote. Very "classic liberal" but it doesn't bear resemblance to todays progressives. It's more populist or even conservative in tone. Proof is in the nightly news. We have seen a lot of the left getting violent over differing opinions, Berkeley is no longer the enlightened seat of free speech and an exchange of ideas. Rather, it is a hotbed of totalitarian violence, as are many universities around the country. One can only conclude that singing about the "land of the free" is the very last thing in their minds. The left will continually face questions that are a natural result of their constant hypocrisy.

    I don't think it has anything to do with fear of being murdered.
    Although it's really difficult to ignore those bloody rampages the Amish go on.

    I think the left is simply made up of people with a like mental illness. The classic liberals have all defected - it all to messed up for the old classics. Today's liberals are not really liberal, and they are not very rational either. They seem to be spineless babies sheltered from the real world - probably never wanted for anything and never worked for anything either. So they have this enormous guilt over the fact that they were born into a country with wonderful laws, enlightened behaviors and order. They are masochists, who feel the need to rip their clothes, roll in the mud, and endure the dysfunction and low standards of some other cultures all because they feel shame for their own good fortune which they inherited from former generations. They want to bring it all down by importing all the foreign chaos, dysfunction, and frankly inferior cultures into the USA. Not from hate, but from guilt.

    In the USA, we have no religious gov't leaders. So it's a mute point.

    Perhaps you can define left?
    And why all of those you define as left, all think the same?

    And as you point out, full garb dressed people aren't bad, just because of their clothes.

    I'm happy to call it anything they like. I just don't see liberals going in to hysterics when the government forces private businesses, owned by Christians, to make concessions to gays wanting a wedding cake, or to women wanting coverage for birth control.

    But limiting burkas in public or limiting immigration from a very few predominantly Muslim countries is suddenly a crime against humanity.
