Its a question of degree.... just because your exposed to certain amounts of estrogen doesnt mean your gonna develop boobs, you might just end up looking a little feminine (which is the topic of this thread).

It's not about the look, but about the actions. I won't say for sure there's no chemical factor here, but in my opinion the vast majority of the issue is culture related.

Well hormone levels also determine actions, a guy taking testosterone shots will become very aggressive. Anyway I dont know whether there is any truth to this whole estrogen theory and whether its the reason for this problem, im sure even if there is our modern cultural values plays a large role also.

Very true, but culture still has a stronger influence. The supposed inability of women to do math, the competitiveness of men, and women's disposition to show emotion is all culturally based. There is no scientific basis that women are worse in math, men are more competitive or women show more emotion through genetic differences.

Well I think that although culture may have a larger influence on their outside persona, the genes are something that can never be changed so I would consider them a stronger factor. Even a man who's been culturally trained to be a woman will never lose his male instincts.

I'll have to disagree with you on that one. Obviously they have physical differences in their DNA, so why wouldn't they have physical differences in the brain as well?

Well here's a link I found that shows the opposite. http://www.care2.com/greenliving/5-false-myths-about-gender-differences.html Go figure. Not even the "experts" can agree. Sheesh.

When I look how much the genders have changed in the last 100 years or the difference in women in the west as compared to women in 3rd world countries act, I see way more cultural influences than genetic.

However, that being said, I realize that there is another issue that needs to be addressed. Why is being effeminate or possessing feminine traits a bad thing? Calling a girl a tomboy is almost a badge of honor while calling a boy a sissy is a huge insult.

An effeminate man is a object of ridicule,
    [IMG]

...but a masculine woman is a sex object.

Parents, ask yourself this question, what would you be more accepting of, your daughter playing with a GI Joe, or your son playing with a Barbie? Be honest.

Cultural influences may influence actions, that's what I'm saying, but just because people are acting a certain way doesn't mean they are following their instincts. Plenty of people adopt cultural customs that they are very unhappy with.

The tomboys don't go around acting like complete men though, if they did they'd probably be ridiculed just as much. I think the men stray much farther than the females from normal gender behavior.

He looks very feminine but how masculine does she look? The way she's dressed, makeup, etc. I'd argue that he's way more feminine than she is masculine.

I think you're right, but I think the problem is deeper than that even. We're becoming an androgynous society, but in effect taking all of the worst traits of both sexes and combining them. Women dress like men too. And they act tough at least until someone hurts their feelings. Men act all soft until they get frustrated with all that they are forbidden by culture to be.

I think the frustration of men is part of the reason for the shooting rampages. Men who are forced to deny manlyness go berserk eventually.

    (1) and (2) are ill-conceived statements, never minding the unshown connection posited between them.

Ok, so you're a misogynist; we get that...

... but do you really have to embarrass yourself here with posting dime-store sexist gripes? :bored:

    As a mathematically-skilled woman, I conclude the above statement is a one-liner.

A mind and voice of reason.....How true that is.

A sick gay world is a weak wicked place...Eventually there will be no place for them in a normal society.

    When confronted with inane misogyny...

... what's the point in debating? There's nothing here but hyper-masculine pap.

    So where do I start...

First of all, Japan has been very open toward homosexuality over the centuries. Those samurai probably had young male lovers. (See Wiki article if so inclined).

Next he have a picture of Rambo from the 1985 movie Rambo: First Blood Part II, which hints that the 1980s were somehow more masculine than today. Hmm...

    I think not.

Finally the most telling of all the pictures. A picture of Nazi Germany being held up as an example of masculinity. I don't think I need to comment on that one. It says it all.

And about your comment that "strong and masculine men" are better money earners than "wimpy men", I think this guy begs to differ.

don't you all love it how certain guys whine about young men being so effeminate when women, for centuries, had to look and act a certain way!!

    what a load of baloney.
