Why Can't White People Identify Black People?

This has angered me . . . and that's all I'm gona say on an open forum .

 

I have terrible memory with names, eventually they sink in but faces i never forget.

 

If it has angered you then perhaps you have taken it the wrong way....Do you think you could give as accurate description of a black bank robber then you could a white?
I would imagine you would be more accurate with the white fellow, it's what you are used to seeing and the differences from white to white are more familiar to you..,,,that's all...

my sincere apologies , man , all these solar flares really work on me at times , you know what I'm saying here , but I'd remember a bank robber if I ever saw one , black or white , just never have seen one up close , hope I never do . me packing a gun , I'd have to take them on , prolly just shoot my own self in the foot.

Seriously though, some people pay more attention to their surroundings, and have a better recollection of details.
I can look at someone sideways and recall what they wear, appr how tall they are and how much they weigh, how they sport their hair, including color, how they carry themselves, even tell (with a pretty good success rate) some common ailments.
Now, names, that's another story.

That's true, some people are better at it. However if you have not spent time with some groups it is likely you would not be as good as if it were your own..

I use to play in the Mountain resorts when I was younger, they called it the Borscht Belt, or Jewish Alps, is a colloquial term for the mostly defunct summer resorts of the Catskill Mountains in parts of Sullivan, Orange and Ulster counties ......

Anyway these families and their kids were all fairly well off, and believe me the only black folk they saw were their waiters and folks on TV....There is no way in Hell I would trust one of their descriptions,,,,NEVER! Like you said, even us Italians looked the same to them...
Dont get me wrong, most of my friends were Jewish, even my business partner, wonderful people....They were just brought up in a different environment...

Blacks, like all other non-white races, have very little variation in their traits.

All blacks have black hair and very dark eyes. Just like asians, arabs, and hispanics who don't have spanish blood.

 

I'll second this. I've noticed how easy it is to not be able to identify athletes when they're not in uniform. Even ones on your home team that you watch regularly. There might be something to that whole Clark Kent / Superman thing afterall.

 

Have you ever thought about how people are identifying other people in the first place? For example, I tend to think about hair color and eye color and skin tone. Maybe scars or unusual face shape or something. Guess what? I'd have to get to the third think on my list before I have something useful to give the police about a black guy. His hair is black because most black people have black hair, same with eyes, I don't think I've ever seen a black guy with blue or green eyes, so you're working with a shorter list -- skinny guy with medium black skin -- which is a fairly large population of people unless he has scars or a missing limb. So when you're trying to remember, it comes down to finding the guy who matches the discription -- black hair, brown eyes, medium black skin, skinny -- and that's half the lineup.

 

I recall reading about results of a study that found we more easily identify people of the same race.

in all honesty though, how often does a 100% black couple have a light skinned child with blonde hair lol?

arent both of those actors mixed btw??? im pretty sure they are so in this case this very well could happen due to family genes. great looking kid btw.

well, this is the issue we have in society, one more clone said "black" people. Everybody in the pictures above are black, even if they are of mixed parents. It is becoming more and more difficult to try and isolate what is strictly "black or white", which is why I am against labeling.

yea, the kid is going to be a heartbreaker.

 

in all fairness i can call a mixed baby or person from a mile away lol. facial features, skin tone, eye color in many cases. in most cases a mixed baby will take on traits from both parents just like any other kid will and i have even seen cases skip a generation to where the kid looks like the milk man may be his true dad lol.

but as far as identifying a person of a darker skinned race lets not even talk about blacks, people could have a hard time identifying even mexicans because most mexican males say have black hair and brown skin lol so you could have a line up of literally 5 mexican men, all with mustaches and the same hair style and they are gonna be hard to figure out which one attacked you. its not a hate thing, its a gene thing. basically white people are mutts for the most part and have a larger variety of different features than say a black person or a hispanic person.

The individuals in the photos above may be "black" according to the one drop rule, but they are not Negroes. They are mixed. Isn't that obvious?

 

According to the census, they are classified as black/negro. So no, it is not that obvious.

I didn't look at the link,all i'm saying does Charles Barkley,look like Mike Tyson, Magic Johnson & Kobe Byant don't look alike? Larry Bird don't look like Kurt Rambis.& Kurt Russell and Patrick Swayze they don't look alike.I can go on and on Black people come in all shapes an sizes, our complexions are a variety of colors,your theory don't hold water when it comes to all Blacks looking alike.And White people either for that matter.
