For a guy that supposedly leans Libertarian, I have no idea why you would admire McCarthy. He and his cohorts among both parties were about as authoritarian as you could get during the Red Scare.

I don't know. Why do you post so many threads about a country all the way on the other side of the world from you that you don't even like?

I think Americans vote against their best interests because they so often have no other choice (other than to not vote). When the ballot says something like

    (D) Satan
    (R) Beelzebub

then our best interests are not on the ballot.

At the risk of sounding vague, "the system" designs it. Our 2 party system ensures that the republicrat party tells us who we get to vote for. And all to often, the choice is between 2 people who differ only in how they will choose to screw over the people.

Aside from Social Security and Medicare, they really don't drain very much at all. And the people receiving Social Security and Medicare are generally too old to keep working--and have already paid in.

No. The situation that creates dependence on others--poverty--would still be there even without the social programs. Poor people would be just as dependent. Social programs don't "create" dependency, they just meet the needs of people who are dependent on someone. It's a way to give someone a shred of dignity in a bad situation, and keep them from spiraling down even further.

Personal responsibility is not some holy grail; it has to be tempered by collective responsibility. Both are important. We have a duty both to ourselves and to others.

    No, they don't.

    Nonsensical right-wing kool-aid.

Nov. 2 of this year is a rather unassuming date. We're still a year out from election day (except for some local races, perhaps).

So why do you let that happen? Are you running the system or is the system running you (rhetorical question).

Isn't it about time Americans out figure they have a crap political system and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT?

You know the two parties you have both represent big money, not ordinary Americans. Yet somehow big money convinces you to let it continue the pretence that it represent you.

    And you let it.

One must admire the irony of the supercommittee statement: "we end this (failed) process united in our belief that the nation's fiscal crisis must be addressed" – just not by the failed supercommittee.

It's just amusing to watch a foreigner who knows nothing of the US and liberty in general post such nonsense. The irony is that Obama turned out worse than Bush.

    Only in your opinion.

Which I have never felt the need to spend much time on.

How is Obama worst than Bush?

Don't mistaken me, I do think in some part, Obama is worst than Bush, like his aggressive actions on foreign policy, the increase on national debt is worst than Bush. it's the most rapid increase in the debt under any US president.

    OBama is very deceptive.

But I just wonder your thought on which part do you think Obama is worst than Bush?

Try for starters that Obama has outspent Bush 5 times over, started a third, illegal war, and just recently pre-empted 20,000 jobs by stimying the Canadian oil pipe line project.

The first two things that Obama did really surprise me, totally different than what he promised about change before he took office. To re-elect Obama will be really against our own best interests.
