I am not sure this is an appropriate forum to post this question, however, I believe this is an intriguing question and may be worth a thought.

Looking at data on the web, all over the world, virtually in every single country the average expectancy of life of women is about 5 years longer of that of men.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_life_expectancy

Simple put, women tend to live longer.

Of the ten oldest people currently living, 9 are women.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_living_supercentenarians

Of the oldest supercentenarians (>110 years old) ever lived, the vast majority are women.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supercentenarian

The oldest man to have lived on Earth died at 115.

The olderst woman to have lived on Earth died at 122.

In the past, many physicians tended to agree that the difference in life-expectancy was due to healtier living habits of women (less smoking, less drugs, less deaths by violence, less stress at work, and so on..)

However, in modern societies the behavioural and professional patterns among men and women are more and more the same: women smoke, use guns and have similar stressful lives as men.

Still, they live an average life 5 years longer.

    Why?

Men have been programmed by evolution to engage in risky behaviours. Insurance companies know this.

    Women need to live longer.

They need to make sure that the posterity are all okay.

It's natures way of making sure that the the species lives on and on.

I thought there was a Japanese dude in the Guiness Book that lived to 120.

There is the high risk behaviour but much of the skew is because not too long ago men were working in conditions that were hazardous to their health.

Exposure to asbestos, ash, dust, and toxic and cancer causing chemicals was not measurably addressed until the mid 90's if you can believe it.

Many of these folks are going to die early and skew the stats for another decade or two until they die off.

Let's see. Men take the risky jobs and women whine that they don't get paid well. Men get sent off to war and die and women whine that they don't get the military benefits, should they survive, that men do. Men are far more likely to commit suicide than women. Women just threaten suicide. Of course, that's another form of whining. Men work themselves to death. Amazing medical advances for women.

As mentioned before, men are more prone to risky behaviour like over use of alcohol, smoking and just doing crazy things.

Women also network better than men and wll seek medical assistance before men do.

One of the leading causes of death in the United States is heart disease. Men are more prone to heart disease (women produce estrogen which is a protective factor). Also, as a previous poster noted, women go to their health care provider sooner when they do get sick and they use more preventive care. Women also use their social support networks which are a protective factor for stress -- stress of course contributes to many illnesses.

82.3 to 78.2. Hardly what you'd call a gap to begin with, is it.

What a sexist thread. You old coffin dodgers want to man up and realise women do almost everything men do these days regarding work and no doubt they do it better. Probably y'all die sooner because you drink too much beer or some such.

ya there's the obvious risk factor for men, there is also testosterone. Hormones cause cancer and other illnesses, and I suppose are linked to the "risk" factor as well.

If we follow the equality of outcomes favored by leftists then there is clearly a problem with discrimination against men. And, lbaming the victim isn't allowed.

    Simple answer...they aren't human.

Anything that bleeds for 7 days straight and doesn't die, can't be human.
