It sounds like speed was a factor as well, like she wasn't aware of how much she needed to lean, or slow down, to make the curve at the speed she was going. I was fortunate enough to be riding a desert trail on a little Honda XR100 when I learned my lesson about preparing for curves. My two experienced friends took the corner with ease, I went off into the brush, not a scratch on me... but it was scary enough to teach me a lesson.

Looking into the corner is necessary like you say, especially when you're unfamiliar with the road.

A 27 year old h.s. teacher in my area was killed on a motorcycle Friday afternoon while leaving the school.

I've given serious thought to giving up the hobby, having had close calls but never laying the bike down. A good friend, with his wife on the back, experienced a tire blow-out at highway speeds. He managed to slow down enough, before laying it down, that neither were seriously injured but lots of road rash. He rides like I do, very safety conscious...full gear, kevlar jeans, highly visible colored vest. Bad stuff can still happen. To some extent, you have to be a fatalist about it because of the inherent fragility of riding without a cage protecting you. Still makes sense to narrow the odds; never ride beyond your level of skill and always ride with the appropriate gear...minimally a HELMET!

    Story doesn't read right.First thing ... The Person wasn't " Driving " but Riding.
And if she was entering a right curve why would she have been so far out from the
right part of the highway. Why would a person be anywhere near the center lane if
looking to go to the right.I could understand if the person was looking to go left,
which would mean approaching oncoming traffic.Makes no sense.Plus at the time it is
dusk.Meaning the sun is too far down to have been a factor. If it was like 4 pm
then she easily could have been sun-blinded.That has happened to me a few times.
Especially around 4 o'clock.Fire Trucks are also usually Big and bright Red.
I wonder if it could have been a possible suicide.

As Reuben of YouTube { Competition Accessories } always says.
When riding a motorcycle ALWAYS act as if yer Invisible.meaning never take it
for granted that others SEE YOU.Treat all riding as if other vehicles can't or
don't see you. The closest calls I ever had was when other's SHOULD have seen me.
Once by a lackadaisical teenage girl in summer.Probably wasn't watching the road.
The other by a Rich old lady in a Big Caddy and she obviously felt she owned the
road.I remember being in the front seat with my Mom as she was driving, some
    years ago.
She acted just like that when she saw a biker she didn't like.As if ... get out of my
    why ... YOU.

Liz and I did about 250 miles today...lots of fun. Nice day, decent weather...we even (briefly) switched bikes. She thought my Burgman was OK...I wasn't at all happy on her Hyosung Comet. (It just doesn't fit me well, I'm approaching the point where swinging a leg over that high bike is painful, and going from the Burgman's wind protection to a naked bike was something of a shock.) Once I realized I had to wring it out, I was pretty impressed by how well that tiny engine pulled! (Full disclosure: I stalled it twice. :( ) She was amazed at the contrast in sound between riding it & being behind it. For the rider, the exhaust is barely audible when moving...but from behind, WOW! (It doesn't have a stock exhaust.) That little motor sounds a lot like a wound-out dirt bike.

I think I'm getting a Givi windshield for my Burg. The stocker sucks rocks.

Um ... this here's a MOTORCYCLE Thread. Not a Scooter thread.
Start a scooter thread and see how many come visit.
Quadrophenia is now passé. Has been for years.

And every one of his faults, he projects on Harley-Davidson riders.

Well that's apparently one area you'll never have to fret over.
being a scooter boy at heart.
Next time yer at the gas pump with yer scooter, ask the nearest Harley
biker what they think of yer ride.
Just for laughs ... mind ya.

A "scooter" is just a small motorcycle. A cycle with a motor. Riding is riding.

I rode with a group (I'm a Southern Cruiser) a few weeks ago...a Goldwing, a Victory, a Shadow, and five H-D's. (2 Sportster 1200's, a Heritage Softail, a trike, & what I think was a Road King.) They were all curious about the Burgman. A couple thought it was pretty neat...especially the huge amount of storage. (The 57MPG also impressed a couple of them.)

None of them had seen a Hyosung Comet before...Liz had no trouble keeping pace with the group, and everyone was amazed when told it was a 250.

Actually, yeah, it is! Burgman, Silverwing, MyRoad700, T-Max, C650GT, Majesty...all of them are maxi-scooters.

I only ride harleys, I would show him all the respect he showed me. If he told me nice bike, I would return the compliment.

I was thinking she had the 650 comet for some reason, so I was a bit shocked by your description of 'tiny'!

I'm pretty impressed with Hyosung. If I ever decide to go the way of sport bike, it'll more than likely be the naked Hyo GT650 comet. I'm pretty well dead set at obtaining a GV 650 at some point.

I have no idea what Planet yer from.here on Earth that's not how it
works out.Harley owners are proud and priggish and as clan-like as
they come. They seem to share a common trait. That Metrics are literally
beneath their contempt. Not even worth the bother.Shown almost naked
indifference.I can honestly say I haven't received a single compliment
on My Rune by a Harley rider in the 10 years I've riden the Rune.
I used to get on average a compliment or 2 every time I took the Rune out.
Mostly from those who don't own a motorcycle.I always ask those who
compliment the Rune, what ride they have.

Maybe in your podunk part of the country thats how it works. I ride with a mix of Harley and gold wing riders. I will wave at anyone on bike, and show respect when respect is shown. Maybe its not your bike but you that they are not likeing, and further more, why would you care if someone else like your bike of choice or not? Ride for yourself.

How the weight on her bike? I rode a 650 a while back, and it felt heavy for a sportsbike, i dont know if its somthing they have addressed, of corse it could have been me.

It's about 350lbs, IIRC. It's not a sportbike...that's the GT250/650R. The Comets are standards, naked bikes. Note: the OE Shinko tires are lousy. (Hers has Metzelers.)

Projection is a very real and verifiable human emotion.
I ask you ... Try ... just try living without it.

" And now before I take up my tale, I want to anticipate
the doubting Thomases of psychology, who are prone to scoff, and who would
otherwise surely say that the coherence of my dreams is due to overstudy and
the subconscious projection of my knowledge of evolution into my dreams. "

Technically still a sport bike though. All they did with the Comet was remove the fairings and changed the handle bars.
