Why some Egyptians are fuming over Netflix's Black Cleopatra

They are a barometer and white Americans have become alot less racist in recent years. Give yourselves a round of applause and keep up the progress.

 

I am Greek and we don't consider ourselves white, never have done. Read our history, we never discussed what you call race. We are mixed race. Technically Asian. Geographically (politically) European.

 

But they are not black. Many Greeks would be offended to be referenced as black.

 

Many of us are but generally speaking, contemporary Greeks are a mix, mainly Asian. You can call us young Turks.

 

Apparently you don't like studies and hard data that says the opposite. Conservatives were never racist. There have always been black conservatives.

But right now both blacks and whites are becoming more racist. And it starts in the schools where we now see segregation making a comeback.

Cleopatra was not black. Not in any sense. And ironically enough, depicting her as such is cultural appropriation by the one group of people who won't even let white people where braids because apparently those are a black-only thing.

Certainly no viking in the history of humanity ever wore a braid in their hair.

You realize that when I say the Egyptians were an amazing people that does not include blacks right? Blacks were not as predominant as Arabs in Egypt. They are part of the Middle East.

 

I dunno. Why don't you give me insight as to what the popular opinion is of young blacks regarding white kids wearing braids?

Lol you have given me no new information. You still think cleopatra can be black. Egyptian achievements are not African achievements

 

Cleo was likely what we today would call black. It's believed that her sister was a native African, arisinoe . The Greeks of antiquity were very mixed, Socrates for example was a black man. Also the Greek colonies in Africa during this time would have resulted in even more admixture.

 

I have planted seeds which is all I can do. I cannot take a horse to water and force him to drink.

 

Black folk probably see it as a sign of respect.
