Odd that no-one has started a thread on this incident..if there is one, forgive me as I missed it...
I cant understand how Christy Sheats could own ten guns. Its obvious from her photo
that she is mentally ill...you only have to look at her eyes....
And the police were called 14 times to her home for previous disturbances...
I can understand someone being pro guns but to have ten...and a mental illness
which seemed to be well known.....do these people just slip through the cracks, or is it
just that no-one really cares......someone enlighten me...

Who knew that fake eyelashes indicate mental illness? You must be a psychiatrist...

What difference does the amount of guns matter when only one can be fired at a time? Kinda like owning 10 cars if you ask me.

If she only hadn't had 10 guns, but only 2, those two girls would be alive now.

Wouldnt she have bought them separately...or are you saying she bought the 10 all at once.
My point is , if bought separately, then, on ten occasions, the seller looked into those crazy eyes,
    and did nothing........

If she's nuts should she still be allowed to vote? How about getting an abortion?

If appearances determine who gets a gun then Muslims and many blacks would kiss the 2nd good bye.

Isnt it weird how the pro gun lobby come jumping out of the woodwork to defend this woman, simply because she had guns....the fact of the matter is that she had a mental illness, and yet she is still allowed to own guns...!!!
is that how the USA is run....jeesus...you people are all crazy.....

If someone walks into a gun shop...lets say another person...not Sheats...and it appears that that person is crazy...and wants to buy a gun, surely there is a duty of care on the seller not to sell that person a gun.......
The question I ask is...what is the duty of care on gun sellers to ensure the person buying the gun is not insane...or suffering from a mental illness...is there any duty of care...apparently not.......

So all her rights are gone? No voting, no free speech, no free association, nothing. If you ask me most Muslims have a mental illness, now do we prevent them from exercising their rights? Same with progressives. Get a court order if she's mentally ill, just make sure you take all of her rights away and not the ones you disagree with. She shouldn't have kids and should be sterilized, right?

If you're asking if a clerk should do double time as a psychologist and refuse sales based on his diagnosis then do you know what door you're opening? And you're basing this on physical attributes she has no control over?

So, you're not only playing psychiatrist based on someone's appearance, but you want store owners to do so as well?

I know right. Maybe to some clerks, African-American eyes look crazy. Let's just deny their constitutional rights based on their looks!

I have read threads before from Americans that call for mental illness problems to be addressed.
I am suggesting that a gun seller has a duty of care not to sell a gun to someone, in his opinion that shouldnt have one.
We all have duty of care in many areas.
Are you telling me that gun sellers just sell guns in the USA to anyone who walks through the door...
No wonder youre all crazy.......no duty of care.......

As pointed out by others, whether she owned one gun or ten didn't matter.

If you have ever been committed to a State Mental Hospital, you may not own a gun. But that takes a judge's order after due process, and the judge must find that the person is suffering from profound mental illness and that they are a danger to themselves or others if not committed. That will trigger the ban on firearms ownership on such people. They will not pass a background check.

But there are tons of people among us who are mentally ill to some degree who have never been committed, so they will pass a background check. I haven't checked by going back through news stories, but my recollection is that Jered Loughner, who shot Gabby Giffords and killed and wounded several others, and who was profoundly schizophrenic, had never been committed and could pass a background check. (Could be wrong, but that's my recollection. I'm sure someone here will correct me if that's wrong.) But, in any case, that's how they slip through the cracks, in answer to your question.

Three words don't give you the right to discriminate based on your untrained opinion of someone's looks. Maybe some clerks think African-American eyes look crazy. Does "duty of care" require them to deny those people their constitutional rights?

    I hope shes not crazy...

So now I get it...no-one in the USA has a duty of care in any field...constitutional rights overrule duty of care....
    Youre all crazy......

no one is defending her-what we are skeptical about are schemes gun haters want to impose on all of us gun owners based on an extreme case like this. Many of you think anyone who belongs to the NRA or opposes what you all call "sensible gun laws" should be put on a "no-buy list". I have seen people wearing buttons saying "NRA-America's ISIS" and other such nonsense. and to say someone should lose their constitutional rights just because you don't like the way the look is beyond silly.

due process-its what's for breakfast lunch and dinner in the USA

The Police had been called 14 times to her residence due to other disturbances.
The fact that she had a mental illness seems to be well known....
Doesn't anyone care about these circumstances...due process is like waiting for someone to shoot
someone else then saying arrest her she's committed a crime.....

it doesn't take much effort to get some to drop the facade about public safety and show us what really motivates them does it?
