Yes, and diversions are still considered fallacies.

In replying to the OP I would say most humans work at jobs to achieve the means to their basic needs. But I believe they also work because they need to achieve something every day and they need the social interaction with fellow workers. Sure you can con the welfare/disability system but that is a minority of people who are just plain evil. In the end they will lose. Once a hard, steady, dedicated worker has earned retirement they can enjoy it because of the great memories of their working career.

You are correct, the current paradigm is not sustainable. For we must consider capitalism and automation which will eventually replace much of the work force. The manual labor part of the work force is being replaced, and those manual laborers were doing what they were capable of doing, and now we no longer need them. This creates a problem for the system of capitalism itself, a model based upon consumption, which requires income for lots of people in order to consume. I am afraid capitalism is doomed for it will not serve society. Unless we reverse and remove the technology, and that isn't gonna happen. SO, it implodes.

We can't wiggle out of this one, but no one is even thinking about it, although we did in the 1930s.

It is about the moral goodness of bearing true witness to our own laws.

Oh, we've always had some who can't contribute. The mentally disabled, severely physically challenged, children and demented elderly... the change will just be dealing with a much larger number of them and a slower rate of growth.

If your position is that these people can't possibly do more than stand in a corner and flip burgers, their contributions will not be missed when we replace them with a burger flipping robot, driver-less car, delivery drone, or touch screen ordering system. Bio-fabriction, 3D printing, self assembling software, expert systems, and AI ... that 'work' will still get done. There will be no less productivity in our economy.

The rate at which we advance will slow, relative to what it could have been if those folks were capable of learning and advancing their skills. But those unfortunate folks will be cared for with the others who require it. Just like the guy born with half a brain, we'll make sure those who are incapable of contributing still get food, shelter, the basics they cannot provide for themselves.

It will be charity, not pay, but they'll still get a monthly check. Maybe we can schedule activities or set up day care centers to keep the Eloi engaged and happy while the remainder of us carry the weight of society.

The danger of a “no consequences” culture is this crime has a perpetrator and an accomplice.

you have to resort to fewer fallacies than myself for me to confide in your sincerity.

    - - - Updated - - -

that also includes the moral turpitude of bearing false witness to our own laws, with a McCarthy era phrase in our pledge. no consequences - more government.

You advocate benefits without work ,choices without consequences. And refuse to reward right and punish wrong that requires common endeavor and shared sacrifice . Check that compass !!

There are lots of people who work at low wage jobs i.e. WalMart, McDonald's, who still qualify for public assistance despite working full time. The OP doesn't know what he is talking about.

I do it on a somewhat regular basis.

Why do you have a problem with the concept of employment at will and Individual Liberty?

The same reason you have a problem with being responsible for bad choices .

It only takes money to make more money under any form of capitalism, regardless of any work ethic.

    - - - Updated - - -

Not really. I just know when I am resorting to the fewest fallacies.

Employment at will and the liberty to not work, does not entitle you to have someone else pay your bills.

He is still working on the tree falling in the forest and no one there to hear the noise . No real life experiences, enablers always THINK they're doing good and never realize the harm they do .
