Will a ‘Black’ Name Brand My Son With Mug Shots Before He’s Even Born?

    Good post. As an open question to anyone and a rant, if you are an employer your very own livelihood and happiness is directly connected as to who you hire many times. With that said, if you hire white males you are hiring people that can be reprimanded, chastised, mocked, poked fun at and gossiped about without much legal recourse from them(within limits). Not only that they will probably respond well or hold up to the banter more than others or even join in. You can also give them unfavorable treatment and not give them equitable working conditions and even promote others ahead of them all with little backlash. You can lay them off, you can fire them and when you do you can shoot spit wads at the back of their head as they walk out the door and call them names(not literally but making a point). I know there are exceptions, but I'm talking about the rule here.
    But if you hire someone that is black it is a FAR different story. You have just hired a multimillion dollar lawsuit in a box with a trip wire attached to the top. And that box gets kicked around in the front office and the warehouse just waiting for someone to spring that trip wire. So, for the next 25 years of the black persons employment you walk around that box on tip toes. You put traffic cones around it. You put out memos and hire 'experts' to give your employees diversity training as to not mess with the box.
    You cant laugh at the box, you cant overlook the box, you cant fire the box and you cant promote better performing underlings in front of the box. The box comes and goes as it pleases, shuffles around and under performs sometimes, sometimes it can steal, sometimes it can be late. And there is a white guy that also shuffles around and under performs and also can be late. But you fire the white guy and set him out with the trash. But you cant fire the box. For when you do it pops open and 5 attorneys jump out with bull horns and phone calls to the media outlets.
    I have been around a number of large entities with hundreds and even thousands of employees. And the persons that run them all say the same thing, "YOU CANT FIRE THEM WHEN THEY NEED TOBE FIRED".
    As an employer why in the world would you want to hire an employee that only represented a huge risk to you without any expectation of any gain from that risk? It is truly a one way deal.
    Lastly, when people work together they develop a social dynamic that many times includes a sexual banter or even a playful racial banter between blacks and whites, just hkidding around stuff. But when the black person gets passed over, fired or mad then the dialogue from that banter comes out as ammo. What were mutually playful barbs are now 'racist oppressions' and a 'hostile environment'.

    Now before people get their panties in a wad you need to remember. The very nature of business is having faulty human beings as employees that make mistakes, say stupid things and fall short. The company itself is inconsistent, it forgets things and has its own faults as well. But through it all they work and move forward and make a dollar. Mistakes and miscues are typical. This atmosphere is a gold mine if you're a minority. You can just wait around and take a few notes and record a few things.
    And one day when a bigger ticket trespass against you comes your way. BAM! You are a millionaire sitting on the beach with an umbrella drink in your hand. And the guy that spent his whole life building the company closes his doors because one of his managers said the N word!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Better give him a good ole 'Murican name like Trac, or Trig.

    Or better yet, a co-worker of mine's husband named their Daughter "Kimber" and their son "Colt" after two of the pistols he owned.

    You might want to consider something like that.

    Ok, maybe at Fubu, these names hold clout. When you are having a child and decided to name it some cool name you thought up, you should be sterilized. I am so sick of hearing, my son is going to look like Trayvon, its getting pretty damn old, thats for sure. This woman accepts her childs handicap, but is going to handicap him even more because she feels she needs to have some ethnic name, and her reasoning is dumb, sorry but Keoin or whatever she wants to name baby Tray that name does not have hawaiian and african roots, its not even possiblem her article is crap. Gee, I know my child is always going to have a burden because my community wont help the youth, so lets double whammy him. Stupid.

    I taught in a predominantly black school for five years. About my third year in, one of the older black teachers told me to watch out for the kids with the crazy names (meaning the made up ones, like Shantrise (the others being standard names))--they have crazy parents, and the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

    I had the opposite experience when I got hired where I am now, about 2 years ago.

    I'm white, and 49 years old. I moved onto a team with 5 black women, 1 latino man, 2 white men (including me), and 1 white woman.

    All the black women were loud compared to me and the other whites and the latino, and joked quite a bit with each other, and it would get pretty spicy sometimes. At first, they looked at me to see if I was getting offended, and I'd just chuckle and go along, because I'm not a prude and they honestly cracked me up much of the time.

    I felt like I couldn't be the first to make an off color joke because I'd get reported to HR, but I found out later after we got to know each other they wouldn't have reported me at all if I did...and now, I can say the most foul things to them and we all get a laugh out of it. Same goes for them.

    I work for a big company, and none of these things I'm talking about is allowed by HR, but none of the 50 other black people in my dept would report me if I walked up and said "nice fro" or "you blacks are lousy drivers". They'd just say "you lillies have tiny dicks" or something.

    I know it's not like that everywhere, but thank God it is where I am.

    I will admit, while I understand blacks wanting to have thier own cultural identity, I'm annoyed by the lack of creativity sometimes with black male names because it seems like they all must have "shawn" or "kee" as part of it. Then just smatter a "La" on either end and "poof" away you go with a new name. And I've said that to my black friends and I get mixed reactions from shut the "f" up, to acknowleging giggles.

    I think the problem comes in when anyone, black or white, is insulted by someone they think doesn't like them. I've found a solution to that dilemna by trying to act in ways that enable me to get along with everybody. If you want to find ways to justify hating other races, that's easy, but as time goes by, more and more problematic.

    I dont "hate" blacks, I just hate the one who lay on their backs and accept 25 sperm donations from 25 different men and then go on to name their children RayShawnaQuay, ok? Black Republicans are my favorite people. If you want to sit and pretend the african American culture isnt effed up, go right ahead.

    Your comments completely overlook the race industry that is alive and well and flourishing. Obviously not all blacks or latinos or any other race considered a minority are involved, but it exists and on a substantial scale.

    No, thank God. I work for a big medical insurance company, but my brother and sister both work for the state, and that would'nt fly there.

    They're constantly telling me about the most simple occurances becoming huge foofaraws involving union reps, supervisors, HR, and fricken tribunals with bonfires and hooded people chanting for chrissakes.

    But not because anyone is black..........in the state of California, filing grievances is way of life, and simply another method for getting what you want. If you can catch someone you don't like being sexist, racist, improper, profane, or anything on the long list of no-no's, they seem to jump on the opportunity.

    This kind of thing seems more like a by product of the PC workplace, as opposed to the notion that blacks file HR grivances and whites are victims of that.

    The only black Republican I like is Colin Powell, but of the black Republicans I don't like...I don't like them because they're Republicans, not because they're black.

    Some parts of black culture aren't "F'd" up for just one reason, it's "F'd" up sometimes because some are still recovering from various long term socio-economic disadvantages resulting from 150 years of poverty and discrimination. Sometimes because of generational welfare and apathy.

    I don't have a problem with Muslims, non whites, or anybody really. If that is just me pretending, I'm going to continue...because it's a heck of a fine way to avoid the problems others seem to gravitate towards regarding race. Something tells me I'm not the problem.

    True, consider this. You worked for Blowjoe Inc. for 25 years and saved up $100,000. You go out and get a big loan for a Four-Plex that is fully occupied by whites in 'white' area. Your cash flow is $800 a month. One day one of your tenants moves out. Now, are you going to rent that unit to a black? Remember, we all know that white people are racist and we all know that there is 'white-flight'. So, blacks move in and whites move out! Is this theoretical or is it typical? It is typical I tell you. As a landlord, blacks moving in and whites moving out isn't a recipe for stable property valuation to a future buyer and isn't all that great on maintaining high rents. Your overhead stays the same but your rents decline.
    Thus the question is, what obligation does a landlord have as to how much he loses and goes into debt attempting to prop up a PC utopian ideology? Oh, and by the way, the owner and landlord is black in this scenario.

    You know what? There comes a time where living life is getting past the greivences of the past that are just an excuse or crutch for millions of blacks to use as a reason as why they dont want to work. Its their right because they were brought here that they get to sit on their ass and be supported? How many hundreds of years do they get to do that before they start working and getting better and being the Astrologists and mathematicians their ancestors were, says Sharpton.
