When your headline is more extreme than the Daily Mail article you're referring too, you know you've gone over the top. Ownership of UK based companies by foreign investors is far from a new thing and in no way limited to Qatar. I fail to see what any of that has to do with the religious beliefs of whoever the next "ruler of the British Isles" is.
Poor Britain. It may be too late for them. The Brits are valiant people...well. they were. and even in their jaded state, they're still way preferable to any muslim.
Why poor? People wanting to invest in our country is a good thing. The fact some of them are from Qatar is no more significant than the fact some others are from the USA.
Objectively that's true. But I think it induces the same kind of discomfort that Americans felt, warranted or not, in the 1980s when the Japanese were buying prime properties in the U.S., or now, when the Chinese are buying up everything. The difference is that no one ever suspected the Japanese or the Chinese of desiring to foment a socio-legal transformation inside the U.S., and I think there is something of a concern about that in the U.K. and other EU countries. However, since you're actually there you would have more of a finger on that particular pulse.
i as a Muslim Kurd do not like the idea at all , and no Muslim country will accept a Christian ruler either ..... lets keep religions out of politics please , that is between you and your god .
I agree.. They infuse the economy with new money and a certain enthusiasm.. Its a robust dynamic. Saudi Arabia is currently a destination of choice for investors ...
Alan , Abu was having a light hearted "dig" . He doesn't believe it himself which is why I agreed with his outlandish thought -- and , as we say , that reduced him to silence . You can always ask him how many years did the US run Egypt , and watch him splutter . Or ask him if they are going to try and cut a deal with the Brotherhood in order to take some pressure off Israel . Then he will have a choking fit .
